First let me say that even though I am Canadian, I happen to be a dual citizen who lived in the US for almost 24 years and took an active part in voting and standing up for what I believe in, such as Americans are known for doing. Maybe as a Canadian I don't have any right to make the following observations, but I am still an American citizen, so I don't think you can really cut me down for voicing my opinion on this. So now we have a woman as a running mate for the vice president. McCain has selected Sarah Palin from the Alaska government to join him on the election ticket. As if it were not making history enough for a "man of color" (actually mixed race) to run for president in this election, McCain appears to be thinking he can make his own history by adding Palin to his ticket. After all, it also shows that Republican woman are just that much better than Democratic women, right? To me, it looks like McCain is trying to get Hillary one more kick in the teeth by inviting Palin to run with him. It also seems to me that the Republicans don't have a snowball's chance in the campfire, because as the Democrats say, Who wants to relive the last eight years? TV comedians are making fun of Palin for her looks, but personally I think she is quite attractive. Besides, looks don't count in politics...oh wait... remember the news people thought Kennedy won his debate because he was better looking than his opponent. Another thing stated by comedians is that if McCain should leave the presidency for any reason, it will be automatically a woman in power. Can McCain at his age take the stress of the presidency or will it kill him, leaving Palin to run the ship? And besides what is the point? So it will be a woman in power, provided it is the republicans taking the white house and McCain is gone. Yada yada... the sudden need of Americans to "make history" has seemed to explode. Wonder what is up with that? Will Americans ever just sit back and BE like say... Switzerland? Neutrality apparently doesn't cut it for Amercans, or at least it is not as much fun. Therefore, history will continue to be made most conspicuously. Isn't that kind of like "fixing" the course of the world? Isn't that kind of like playing God? Or maybe... as Walter Cronkite would have said, "That's the way it is!" and we can't do anything but sit back and watch the politicians play their funny little games.
