Apparently age doesn't matter - but maybe it should.

The guidelines for electing a US president state that the candidate must be at least a certain age to run. However it now appears that there is no upper limit placed on this activity. Do the Americans really want to elect a man who is more than 5 years past what is generally considered retirement age? Is that kosher when all over the country is saying people should retire at 65, or even 62, or 60. Does setting a retirement age suggest that these folks of a certain age are no longer competent?
At 57, my husband's health drove him into retirement. He wasn't strong enough to go back to work after he got better, so he was officially retired and put on pension by his employer. For sure, 57 is young to retire. He's now 61 and still regrets that he couldn't work till at least now if not 65.
I suppose it is sort of the same for McCain. He wants to continue to believe he is useful and helpful to the country. Meanwhile, his peers are collecting what is left of Social Security. Hmmm, will he receive the presidential monetary compensation as well as Social Security. How fair would that be?
If his health fails, as with any other president, the vice president will then take over. I would say that gives pretty good odds that the US will have a female president sometimes within the next four to eight years, although I can't see him going for a second term at 76!? so that would be in the next four years. Bet the republicans planned this whole thing, so that their party would have the first female president instead of the Democrats getting Hillary into office.
It's just one history maker after another in this election. I pity kids in high school history classes twenty years and more from now trying to keep this all straigt.

I don't think Mccain is kicking off any time soon if genetics have anything to do with it.

I was just about to make the same comment!
Also many more people are working well past 62 or 65 - most because it is financially necessary for them to do so.
