What do you normally wear lenses or spectacles? I have short sight and thus I was wearing spectacles. Over the time I started going to college and switched over to lenses. Now its been five years since I am wearing lenses. Lately I have started facing prblems in wearing lenses. My eyes start turning red and itching starts after I wear lenses for long hours? Do you think the problem is because of lens wearing for extended hours?? Please suggest!

yes...prolonged use of lenses can irritate the eyes. especially if the ones you are using aren't clean enough.
for my bad eyesight what i do is i wear lenses when i go to work, which is around 12 hours. then the rest of the day, i rely on my glasses. my eyes need breather from lenses.
i don't want to overuse my eyes with lenses, cuz my eyesight will never get better. and one way to protect what i have most of what my eyes have is to protect them from possible irritation and slight damages.
but if your eyes are still sensitive, stick to your glasses for the while. just get a nice frame that compliments your happy face. =)

I started wearing eye glasses during high school but switched to contact lenses when I got to college (vanity reasons LOL). Unfortunately, like you, after several years of using lenses, the time came when I experienced excruciating pain when I try to put them on.
When I went to an opthalmologist to have my eyes checked out, I was told that I already have dents in my cornea and was advised not to use lenses anymore. I guess that's the result of being too lazy at times to remove the lenses at night :(
Now, I've been wearing eye glasses (again!) for about 8 years. I developed astigmatism aside from being near-sighted because of my lenses episode. Some friends told me there are lenses available for astigmatics or those who have corneal dents but since they're quite expensive, I still haven't gotten around to trying to buy a pair. I'm afraid it might not work out and I'd have spent money for nothing.
Make sure you give your eyes enough time to "breathe" by alternating your lenses with spectacles for the meantime. Good luck and I hope you don't go through with what I've experienced.
