I need to get a car. I am looking for something used, and since I don't have a ton of money, want something that gets good gas mileage. And is dependable. Are there any good suggestions? Good cars that get good mileage? Thanks!

I've worked at a few different dealerships and I have to say that Import cars are your best bet. Domestics break down very easily. even though they are cheaper, domestics dont run well past 150,000 km. Imports, if kept up on their servicing, can last well over 400,000 km. Try going with something like a Mazda, Toyota or Honda. Hyundai's are cheap right now but still don't have the best name for them. (beleive me I worked there). Also try to get a 4 door as they will cost you less on insurance. Good luck.

I don't really go for used cars unless the car is just slightly used. Used cars normally will give you headache very soon. If the car is not in good shape, it is very impossible to get good gas mileage no matter what brand you got. So whenever we buy car we always go for a brand new one. I find satisfaction in Toyota Fortuner. I would say it has been giving us a good mileage.
As I said previously, your car must be in good shape and therefore it means the care is always tuned-up. And this include cleaning or replacing air filters, make sure tires are in good condition and wheels are properly aligned. Spark plugs must be replaced if needed. Always inflate tires to maximum limit because if under-inflated the have more friction with the road and gives hard time for your car thus consuming more gas.
I hope you can find a good second hand car. Don't be deceived by the looks! I wish you the best!

I have a 1991 ford escort it doesn't look great but we got it for $1,200 and it runs fine. It gets great gas mileage and is only about $27 to fill up the tank. It's really hard to find a car for under $2,000 these days even if your buying a POS car. I had a 1996 nissan sentra which also had really good mileage... about 35 mpg. Good luck on ur car hunt!
