The War "We" are fighting...

OK...so I know that this will start some kind of 'great debate' or something but there is something that has me peeved. Why does it seem that every time another country is in trouble or needs a helping hand it has to be the US that comes in and gives it? Is it our insatiable need to stick our noses into others' business or is it just our innate ability to be compassionate and feel empathy toward the little guy? From what I understand this war is a waste of precious tax dollars and a waste of innocent American lives. All we were supposed to do was go over there and find Osama and here we are years later dealing with the civil strife of a country that should have long ago learned to protect itself. We have been over there for HOW LONG and they haven't learned enough for us to be able to pull our troops out of there and let them take care of themselves? Someone said to me today that this war is like Vietnam...we went in there with a purpose and came out with egg on our face. We ended up being dragged into their problems when we had enough of our own. Our economy suffers while we show another how to build their own. Our troops die at the hands of those we are teaching combat to. We, as a country, have always been concerned with human rights and we have never been able to stand by and watch while someone suffers but shouldn't we draw the line somewhere? I would really like to hear some thoughts and opinions on this subject...

I think you hit the nail on the head at the beginning. We just like to stick our nose into everybody's business. The U.S. has become the world's bully, sticking it's nose everywhere, even places where they do not want us to be. It is sad, very sad. I'd be willing to bet that the Congress that decided that we should no longer be neutral and get involved with WWII never thought we would turn into the country that we have become.
