We got the report yesterday that there will be no Church picnic again this year. We already had canceled it around July 1, this year because it rained and after we canceled, on the day, it got warmer later on the afternoon, But then the ground would have been too damp especially when there are little babies and children. So the Committee decided to have the picnic on the Saturday after Labor Day, that is tomorrow and now it is going to rain again. There has only been one picnic in the ten years since I became a member.
What is going on? I know that God sends HIS rain on the just and the unjust. Are all the ungodly people praying for rain so we cannot have a picnic?
If they are, stop it! This is ridiculous.
So do you find that when you make plans, that something goes wrong?

Well as you say rain comes in just and unjust so we cannot blame anyone or anything, some people in other places need the rain for the good of their live some has the abundance so we need to pray to God to always protect us and give us the happiness that we need.

I just learned that the other church in fellowship with ours wanted to use our gym and the parking lot for their picnic. So we decided to go to Bird Hill Park, only that we have to book months ahead. And why is it all right for rain to happen to come on a Saturday and that particular Saturday at that? I mean the crops will not fail if the rain came on Tuesday instead, would they? Is it "it has to rain on September the sixth or we are doomed and the crops will fail,"
But it is a shame that we only have a small park in our area. If the large one was not near the highway and near a dog walk, or a golf course, we could have had the picnic there. Oh and it did rain that day, scattered showers all through the day.

Really do you think people are prayiing fo rrain just to ruin your picnic? They should plan on it when it isnt the rainy season I would think. Or does it rain there alot!
Hard to make plans to far in advance for it can rain ya out.
When I lived in the south we would hav eto just plan to go that day that the sun is shineing and even then y adont know it can rain any time then ya have to take it in doors.

I think that all this could have been avoided if our government had not been so cheap as to move the weather station out of Winnipeg and to another province. I mean if you live in Manitoba you can get a more accurate monthly picture of what is gong on. Someone who is in Alberta or Ontario has no idea. We could not take it indoors, because we allowed the other church in fellowship with us to use our school and church grounds and they were not that large.

Maybe you can have inside activities as a back up plan next time so the activities are not totally cancel. I know it's not the same, but it beats canceling after all the preparation and anticipation. When stuff happens I usually find other things to do.

Hello dear friend. I feel so bad that you have to have the picnic canceled because of the rain. Yeah, there are also some times when I planned to do something and had to give it up because of something unexpected from happening. It is very disappointing though.

Don't be silly. It's raining because you need it. God gave us brains and expects us to use them. What's wrong with moving the picnic indoors? Have a picnic inside the church and play games and have fun. The only difference is that you would now have a roof over your heads. Be inventive!
There are many games you can play inside. Beanbag toss, relay races, word games, who can draw the funniest picture on a blackboard, put on a funny play, have a talent show.

Do you not have any contingency plans my friend? Can't the Church hire a hall? Or a place which is indoors, I know it's not the same having a picnic indoors but the fact of the matter is, it's a social affair, a get together and if you only have it if it doesn't rain then you'll never have it! Least if you compromise by having it indoors but that's just my opinion. If it's any consolation here in the UK it rained constantly all day yesterday and all day today, it's more like November! Will they reschedule it for another date this year, as we can still in theory have some nice dry days in the latter part of this month!

Actually we do have the gymn and we do have the church basement but this was to be special. And there is only one big park and you have to book it way ahead of time to get a booking. It was for the children and also for the new minister we are getting--although we did warn him of the strange weather we are having.

Perhaps your church is not pray hard enough :) Last year during our holy procession we experienced a torrential rain with all the decorations being damaged etc.

I suppose with praying for the sick, praying for the conversion of unbelieving family members, and praying for traveling mercies, that praying that God will make it a nice sunny day takes second shift. But maybe we prayed the wrong way, we should have prayed for the wisdom of the weatherman to make accurate long range predictions so that we would have known it would rain and we would have booked it another day.

Why do you blame God for everything that goes wrong in your life? Sometimes, things just happen. Perhaps your church should seek a time that is not the rainy season. Or maybe they should have their picnic indoors and rent a hall. Don't blame God. Blame man.

God did ntt make it rain on your picnic. Our church has a bloody picnic every year and if it rains, we take it inside. Or we set up tents outside and we still have a blast. Maybe he is raining on your parade because he's angry with you for blaming him when radom act of nature happen.

Well God is in charge of the rain. And maybe HE made it rain because our city was supposed to set land aside for a park in our area, but the city fathers did not do it. I think it was not that HE wanted to ruin our picnic - and that was for at least three churches in our city -- it was just that a lot of land had been set aside for a park, but the contractors who wanted houses took some of the land so now there is only a little patch just enough for the little children to run in and have a swing set. And we have to drive about ten to twenty miles to the Main park to have it, and they do not have enough shelters for about six hundred or so people. Unless we take over from another's picnic area (and I think there was a lot of cancellations on that day -- so they will have to make more shelters and barbeque pits now.)
And our church basement cannot hold enough for six hundred people nor can our parking lot.

You are a great one to talk. When are we allowed to have a picnic? It is the summer holidays. We had to cancel the one around the end of June, that was after the kids left school, and now we have to cancel the one before they go to school. This was a day when none of the parents had to go to work, and they were all back from their vacations and visiting their families out of the province. What time would you suggest? Winter? We live in Manitoba and it snows most of Winter, and in the spring it is too damp and the snow is melting, in fall, the nights get too cool, so the only time is Summer and usually our summers are hot, it just starts getting a bit cool at night at the beginning of September and at the end of June it is not that blazing hot yet.
And I do blame man. If they had not been so bad, God would not have caused it to rain when they asked him to so they would know HE answers prayers and listen and obey HIM. They would have had faith.

I did feel rather upset. You read the one before your's didn't you? It seems that every year it is the same - except for that one year. The trouble is that our church has to book weeks or months in advance, and we cannot predict the weather that far ahead. And I am sure that many of us prayed for a nice sunny day, but I guess no one prayed that that sunny day should be extended to two days previous to that because it takes time for the ground to dry and it was a reschedule of the other picnic that was canceled the end of June and that was because we were trying to get a new minister because our old one had to retired because of health problems.
And I am sure that the little children will be disappointed.

It would be if we had a larger church and a larger school, but well we do have activities inside all the time. I mean if we lived somewhere up in the Yukon Territory, or in Nome Alaska, then we would be satisfied to stay indoors all the time, but this is in Winnipeg and goodness knows we get sunny days, it just so happens it did not happen on Labor Day. So how long does this happen to go on? Will it only be sunny for a picnic once in every five years, once in every ten years? Will it only be sunny for a picnic on Labor day if we do not book for a picnic, and raining when we do? Oh I am not in charge of the picnicing. I am just a member of the congregation who is wondering why this is going on.

then why not get some games and picnic foods and move the whole thing indoors im sure the kids will enjoy that just as much if you are inventive enough

We used to have one in the next county where they have the nicest little pier and I would go there and just sit and relax. My current boyfriend takes me to his favorite pier and we just sit and relax there. He also likes to fish but lately he hasn't been able to. Our church would go each year, but with the change in leaders we haven't been able to. I used to love going out there each year. But they just won't go any longer. made me feel bad on that.

We had kept giving up on picnics because the weather would not cooperate, but this year, we hoped to go. And it is hard to book a site because it is the only big park that is all into nature, is not in any heavy traffic. There is a closer site near by, but there is a lot of heavy traffic and it does not have the facilities and there is also a golf course nearby, as well as a dog walk and a few of our members are extremely allergic to dogs.
So maybe next year, we will be successful and the weather will cooperate.

I am sorry to hear that your church picnic was canceled because of the weather yet again. I think it must have been annoying for you to have only had one church picnic in the last ten years. It seeds the date was put back hoping that there would be dry and sunny weather but that didn't happen quite sadly.
In my home country the summer was terrible this year with rainy days and lots of cool days. It was the worst weather in the last 150 years a newspaper report said. Now it is September we are into the autumn now and the days will get colder as it gets closer to winter. Today was really rainy and windy. It certainly wasn't the right kind of weather for a picnic.
I went camping in late August and was nervous about the weather. I was lucky because it was cool but mostly dry. At the end of term my toddler son and I were invited to a picnic at a fantastic playground. It would have been canceled if it had rained that day. Luckily it stayed dry and all the children had a very enjoyable time. Good luck with the weather for future picnics my friend.

The weather was terrible this year. True it was warm and sunny for much of the summer, but the rains came just in time to spoil some of the crops. What should have happened would have been it to rain mostly at the beginning of the growing season and then at the end of August to be nice and dry so the foods would ripen. It was nice for the strawberries and raspberries, but not for the root vegetables. I have some potatoes and I am sure they are rotten.
I am glad your picnic was not canceled. We have only one large park in Winnipeg, they were supposed to build a park in our area, but they figured that since most here are working middle class people that we did not need one. And the park we have, we have to book weeks or months ahead, and only when there is a space available and we had to cancel two days previous because it rained and the ground would not dry as quick.
Oh today would have been the picnic and we have been having intermittent showers and I doubt it would have been good for the little children.

It sure is not. I think of the children who cannot enjoy it. I might not have been able to go because of my husband's strokes so it was not a pity party on my behalf. I was thinking of those people who never got out much and this was there only chance to get to see each other and have plenty of room to do so. After all it is standing room only when we are in the basement after church and I am sure it is the same with the other church. So here we would have had plenty of room.
And then it goes and rains.

Thanks very much for the best response my friend. So the weather was terrible this summer in your country too. I know that you get very cold winters with much snow so you must look forward to the summer. Before I moved I used to go to lots of picnics with my friends in parks close to the coastline. Most of the time we had sunny and dry weather. Yes, children are disappointed when it rains and the picnic can't happen. In damp weather a picnic isn't awfully enjoyable. Good luck.

Something can always go wrong,, this World is far from perfect!
Why not just have a Chruch family meal indoors. It doe not have to be a picnic outdoors.. Have someone be in charge of organizing it. Like who is going to bring What food dishes, drinks, desserts, cups, napkins, plastic silverware etc....
Have some in charge of the kids line up some indoor relay games, puzzle solving etc... small prizes could be given away....
Someone else could be in charge of adult games... Or put on a talent show.. Who ever has a skit, song or intrument to play can do so after or before the meal...This can be so much fun and entertaining....
I just thnk that it can be very much fun indoors as well...

We did it the last time, but we cannot do it all the time. Besides at the picnic, we have two Churches in our city, and at the picnic they all come. OUr church basement and the gym of our school is not large enough to accommodate all. Because everyone invites everyone over and there are the two other affiliated churches, so it gets crowded.
But guess what will happen later today, it will start to become sunny in spite of that little rain cloud below my browser.

That really sucks that they cancelled it. We've been very lucky with our church picnics and they have never been rained out. Too bad they canceled yours. Isn't there a way to still have it during the month of September? I don't see why not. I am not sure where you live, but I doubt it will get really miserable, weatherwise, anywhere, until November or December. Even early October might work for a picnic. Too bad they canceled it. That really stinks!

Sorry to hear the plans were spoiled by rain. Never fails to happen to us as well whenever we plan a camping trip or a day at the park.
