No time for my hobby. Can you find the time?

I am a potter and that is how my username came into being. I would love to spend all my free time makingpots.
I realized while talking to a friend recently that I have not made a pot in over 3 years. I have a 4 year old son, so I guess you can figure out why. When he was a baby I was determined to make time for myself which was easy while he slept so much of the time. But now, there is just no time. While I miss it greatly, I can't think of a better reason to have to give up something important to me for a brief time.
What are your hobbies?
What do you find gets in the way of doing your hobby?
How passionate are you about making time to do it?

A favorite hobby of mine is reading. I can never resist a good book and I would say that since the first of the year I have read at least 150 books. I always have a book on me regardless of where I go and whenever I slow down for even a minute I will take it out and read a few pages. I found that when I don't read I get irritable and I snap at people a lot more so I definitely try to make sure that I have my book with me. I sometimes carry an extra one just in case I finish the first one before I can get home and get another one. The only thing that really gets in the way of my reading is working, but I love my job-I work in a pet store-so I barely notice the time out from the book. I understand how it is with young ones running around. I don't have any but I lived with my sis and her two boys and I could never get anything done let alone slow down long enough to read a book. Thank goodness I have my own house now.

I am completely green with envy that you have read 150 books since the start of the year. I love to read and I long to have your commitment for doing it.

Two toddlers, I can't imagine. I love to read too. I do it at times when I know my son will see me do it and want to sit down and do it with me. It is very sweet. I likes to pretend to read the newpaper like his daddy by taking the sales pages out. They are just the right size for him.

Hi there Making Pots!
I am sorry to hear that but I do hope that you can figure out a way to make time for yourself and your hobby. I think it's important to have that.
I love writing, reading and surfing the internet. I also love playing online and network pc games.
I can still write because I am the literary editor of our school magazine and I earn 25% off my tuition fee through that, I read when I'm in the bathroom and also before I sleep. I also play online games and other pc games once a week. I do mylot for a few minutes everyday too. I have time for those even though I am studying because my mom keeps an eye on our son if I have to do something.

You're right. I am really happy with that. i hope that I can get through the screening again for the next school year. In our school magazine, even the old staffers will undergo screening, interview and the group activities again.
Thank you very much for choosing my post as the best response.

You have a good system for yourself which is great.
I agree that it is very important to have things for myself. I will get it back someday soon.
How great that one of your hobbies pays you to succeed. Good luck with your studies.

I live alone and can do any of my hobbies anytime I want......but once upon a time I was in your position when the kids were home. I did try to involve them whenever I could and we did tons of activities that they enjoyed. Now that they are older they do some of the same hobbies as adults.....soon you will be able to include him. I paint with my three year old granddaughter and she enjoys it so very much!

Hello friend. Now I see the meaning of your user-name. Yeah, I also think that there is no reason for us to give our nice hobbies if we are passionate of them. To me, to mylot every day is my great hobby, without which I would feel that I have something undone today. lol. That is my favorite hobby at present.

I totally understand. I always wanted to start a new hobby but I really do not have time to do anything. I finish work, and come home to find dishes, ironing, cooking, cleaning and other housework. And when I am done with all these I just need to rest until the next day. It really sucks!

Don't stay in that rut long, my friend. I hear it gets harder and harder to climb out of.

I love to write, so I do that quite often, but I also like to sing, dance, read, watch television, watch films, make collages, and take care of my cats. Right now, I cannot do some of the things on this list because I am still recovering from surgery. I write, so I am making time for at least one hobby.

potter that's great! you are like robert de niro in 'showtime' (but i think you make much better pots than he did ) like de niro which is always engaged on arresting crimes, i think you should spend sometimes to do your hobby.
i like reading, than that's much easier than potting. i always get books with me, so when i am going somewhere, i can read book while i am standing in queue or waiting for something. i also like yoga. i practice yoga also. i do it in the early morning, before i go to work. usually, in the evening if i am not so tired and hungry, i will also practice it for less than 1 hour.

I practice yoga too. I love that I am able to fit that in my day no matter what. It is a hobby I hope to never have to give up.
Like you I also like to read and often have a book in my car for those just in case times.

I am a blogger. I love to blog and share my life with my friends online. I just give birth to my first child and still in the confinement month. I agree with you, I have plenty of time to do my own things now as the baby sleeps most of the times. I wonder how will my life be when my baby is 4 years old ;p

one of my favorite pastime was cross-stitching. but when i started working online, i have lost the time to do this. maybe because it really eats my time and i can only do a small part on my project. it's sad that only very well-off people now can afford really to work on their hobbies. it's because we have to work and work most of the time. I envy those people who creates money by doing their hobbies like my husband. he loves editing and graphics stuffs on computers, and now he accepts projects to edit and so he likes it a lot.

hm...i think it is more of time management..
you just have to set a time every day or even every week to do what you like..at that time do remember to let go of all the worries if not it will be no use..

Doing sites like this is my hobby. It is also how I make extra money so I make time to do it. I also really enjoy it. Unfortunately I used to work out, but lately I can't tear myself away from the computer to go do that. I need to start working out again.

the point is you never have enough time to do everthing, but you always have enough time to do the most important thing. i don;t how much importance of you work or maybe that's aslo one of you hobbies.there is alway have time to do something that you liked. that;s what i am thinking.

What you need is a group or a circle of buddies who DO have the same hobby as you, and as long as one of them wants to do it, he/she will contact everyone else...
I have absolutely no time for my hobbies, but due to my contacts, they call me to join them, I can squeeze out my time on that day just for that hobby.
Passionate? You don't have to be over passionate. You just need to be willing to do it. As long as you like it, why not?
