Burglar enters your house - have you experience this?

Yesterday our neighbor informed me that, somebody entered their house. They lost some appliances, and their electrical wiring was cut off. The thief entered through the window.
I was not home that day, when the thief went to their house. Nobody was in our house too. I was thankful because the thief did not enter our house. I was lucky to have my dog guard our house.
Before, we don't have a dog at home, we used to lock the doors and gate of the house when we go out. One time, two little boys entered our house, they climb through our fence, with a help from an 18 year old guy. And they got some aluminum stick found in our garage. Our neighbor saw this and called the police. I was informed through a text message. I was at the mall that time. My husband and I went home immediately, and the police were already there. I am thankful that with our neighbors help, the thieves were caught. But the little boys, were released by the police after 3 days.
Have you ever experienced this? How do we prevent thieves or burglars from entering our house. Nobody's home most of the time. My dog helps a lot right. Can you share some tips?

I have been robbed twice, both times I was at work, I used to always work late shifts, I think people get used to seeing what times people work and take advantage of it, I am afraid i didn't handle either time very well, I now have grills up at every opening window, it really scares you when people invade your home this this..

oh, no. Thats terrible. Did they get anything expensive? I hope they don't see much at night time. What I experience here is a daylight robbery.

We don't experience things like this in the area I live and for that I am grateful . We don't worry about locking our doors when we go out and never lock up our vechiles . Everyone knows everyone and this can have it's benefits as well as it's drawbacks but one of the big benefits would be that no one worries about having their home bugularized when they are not home .
The only time we lock our doors would be if we were going to be away from home for an extended period of time and this would be due more to the fact that we don't want to come home and find out that a bunch of teenagers had decided to have a party in the house which would be the worst of our worries .
Have you thought of getting a home alarm system , that to me would be your safest bet . I have no idea how much they would cost in your area but it would seem to be a safer bet that you wouldn't come home and find all your stuff missing while you were away especially if you are away from home most of the time .
That would be really frightening to come home and find that someone else had been in your home , invading your space and privacy and then running off with anything they liked , not to mention what would have happened had there been someone home when they went in to bugularize the home .

Its scary to see a burglar at home. I have heard about the home alarm system. But I don't really know how it works. And how much it costs. I try to ask my friends if they have any idea about it too. Thanks for sharing.

Thats good, you have guard in your house. We cannot afford to hire a guard. Its expensive. We just lock our doors and gates when we go out. And pray that nothing is going to happen everyday time we are out of the house. The dogs served as our guards.

no, i have never had this to happen, thank god. i would hate knowing somone had been in my home. i feel quite safe but i think if that was to happen i wouldn't anymore. i have heard if you keep a tv or radio going that that might stop someone coming thinking someone was at home. of course we all know to keep out doors & windows loved but that doesn't keep them out if they want in. one thing that i have that i like & makes me feel better are security lights that come on when someone walks up to the house. of course that just at night. i think neighbors helping to watch each others house is good to. we live in a small cove so we usually know when some of us are going to be gone.

Thats also a good idea, if you put radio on, while nobody is in the house. I think it should be battery operated, rather than using an electricity. Might cause fire. I'm afraid of that too.
Yes, having good neighbors can be a big advantage to watch each others house.
Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Yes, but we caught the person, and he did not get away with much. We did get the police involved, but they really did not have to do much because we pretty much handled everything ourselves.

lets say someone attempted to rob me lol. i was home alone, bf was offshore for 2 weeks. i always lock and check doors and windows before i go to sleep, but it had been really hot and there was finally a cooler breeze coming thru if i left 2 of the window open (had screens though) well about 3am something woke me up. didnt really know what it was at first, but i got up and looked into the living room. and hanging half-way thru the window was some guy!! he looked up at me and we stared at each other for what seemed forever, but probably just a second or two. then i kind of got mad and yelled "WTF?!" and he scrambled back out the window and took off.
the embarrassing part of the story, hit me after i closed and locked those 2 windows and ran around checking everything else again..the reason he just stared at me for that little bit of time was because i was buck naked!! i never even thought about putting my robe on, cause whatever it was i heard didnt make me think someone was in the house, so i just walked out of the bedroom bare to the world lol!!
weird thing is, i never got scared, and i should have been. even the next morning when i was filing the police report i wasnt scared. in fact the only reason i waited until the morning to call the police was because i wasnt scared, for some reason it didnt feel like a big deal..and it was.
thankfully that guy didnt take anything, and didnt realize that the naked woman in the house was alone!!!

You should be careful, that man might return and realize that there is a nak*d woman in that house. You are very brave. Did the man enter thru the window?

No one has ever broken into my house Thank God for that, but the neighbor that lives on the street behind me had some one break into her house. My kooky neighbor next door staged a break in of his house trying to get some insurance money it didn't work the police are on to his tactics.
Most of the people here use a security system to protect their homes. Like ADT.
It is registered and monitored with the nearest police department.

I have many experience on encountering burglars but they steal only minor stuff like plates and glass, guess what my neighborhood is a burglar. There are minor groups who stole my ladder which I really angered, I will report someday who stole it because in my country there is no punishable law for minors and its unfair. My prevention on
dealing burglars is to lock everything on night.

When I was student, burglar break-in my dorm and stole most of my belonging. Left only my books. I have spent my time a few hours at police station to make report and they came to the location to do investigation. Nothing happen ever since.
A few days before I got married, me and my fiance going out for last minutes shopping for our wedding. We put some of them in my car while continue shop other things. At last I found my car was break-in and all of our belonging gone. We almost cancelled the wedding ceremoney. However think and think again, we go another round to the same shop and buy the same things again.
Oh my God.
