The great mobile phone conspiracy

I was reading about a husband and wife who bought the exact make and model of mobile phone at exactly the same time, now the wife uses her phone heavily for calls, texts, internet, downloading music etc. The husband only uses his for calls and texts and doesn't use his as much as the wife. Now this is wear the conspiracy theory comes in, both phones of the husband and wife have started messing up also at exactly the same time, according to the wife mobile phone manufacturers 'time' phones so begin to mess at particular time after manufacture to encourage to buy a replacement, thus, in theory increasing that particular manufacturers profits as they people will buy the same brand again. Now i think if a brand of phone messes up would you buy that brand again or would you buy a different (more reliable brand)? I see what she means but surely you wouldn't buy that brand again if you feel its unreliable so if mobile phone manufacturers are indeed doing this 'timing' thing they'd be making a rod for their own back.

i also feel that there does exist some sort of software or such timing, which would make the users FEEL that their mobile ... or such a gadget, is not working satisfactorily, and would be forced to go for a replacement.
It is something to be clearly avoided by the manufacturers, but, who is listening?
Neither the government or the enforcing authorities, or the neutral observers ... take these points into consideration.
God help us.
