Linux is really the best if you are a programmer or your a computer science major, because all you the programmers "tool" is already there and ready to use, but i think it is not that user-friendly. It is not easy to use. One more good thing with Linux is that it is free=)

I have ever used Red Hat, fedora and started using ubuntu some days ago. I believe that for a beginner, ubuntu will be the best choice, though i may not be the best Linux. Who knows which is the best? If only you like it.

Linux is better than windows because: 1)It is an open source operating system, 2)It does not use up your resources like windows does by starting sooo many services that are not needed by the regular user. 3)It has a muck better interface than windows. This makes it a killer combination. Everything a programmer/encoder could ask for. I myself do a lot of encoding jobs and my favorite is DamnSmall Linux. So this is the list: best user interface : Fedora best performance and least memory usage : DamnSmall
