What DSLR should I buy?

I am intending to join a good photography course at my local college. A few years ago my hobby was Formula 1 photography and, of late, my interest seems to be returning. Can anyone please advise me on their opinion of a good professional DSLR Camera based on a price of around £1000 to start with. My preference has always been Nikon but I am more than happy to consider all other recommendations. Please advise.

Well, I personally shoot with Nikons and I would highly recommend them! I currently use a Nikon D300 which goes for around £900 for the body only. It's an incredible camera! It has a 51-point area focus with 3-D tracking... which is amazing for sports photography... and I imagine it would be very useful for Formula 1 photography! You can learn more about the different features here http://www.europe-nikon.com/product/en_GB/products/broad/1436/overview.html If you're looking for something less expensive, the new Nikon D90 is less than £900 with a lens. What sets this camera apart from other DSLRs is that it shoots video as well as still photos. Thank you for your opinion and the links - I value it. The Nikon sounds just up my street and I'll take a walk to my local photography stockist and spend some time with one. Very grateful.

Many people said canon and Nikon are good camera. That's right. However why not give a try to Pentax and Panasonic too? Pentax K200D and Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 are in the "top camera" category.

Pentax have been recommended to me before. I have never owned one, but I have used the old 'ME' to my great satisfaction. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks for your comment. A professional photographer friend informs me that Canon have good, fast processors in their cameras. Hope you enjoy it.
