When it comes to cellphones we can see it in hands of a school going child to that of a business persons. Have they become such a necessity that a 12-13 yrs old child can't go without it??

its not a need, but it can help
My younger sister has one (she's 14) and she uses it mostly for contacting my mom and make sure everything's all right... I think it could be use for important purposes but 10-13 its a really premature age to have one

hi potenz
now a days cellphones become the necessity for man .
bussinessmen, housewives ,all having this facility.
even hawkers, ricksaw pullers vegetable sellers all using cellphones.
but i think we don't have to provide cellphones to the students in this early age.
this can be harmful too. as we know cellphones are harmful to the person(excess use) whosoever is using, in many ways.so........
even this time is for study.
they have to concentrate on their studies.
later on they can use if they really need.
take care.

i remember, i don't have a cellphone on that age, but still can live without it... but, that was 10 years ago.. hehehe;
first time i got cellphone at my age of 17 when I'm going to study at university, so my family can call me..
Right now, almost the kids have the cellphones in their hand.. it become trends and necessity..

As a student i can confidently say that i have almost never used my cell phone for studies. I got a cell phone when i was 16 and never really used it for anything stuent related. I could just as well used regular phones for school related things. However i think that nowadays it is something that most kids just kind of have.

We gave our son one for Christmas last year. He is 13. BUT it is a track phone and he has to pay for his own minutes (we gave him a 20 dollar card to start with) He has a paper route and so he has a small income. He begged us for one and was shocked when he received it from us. We got it so he could use it to call us for a ride or tell us where he will be after school.
Since he's paying for the minutes, he rarely uses it!

i think its more of a social need for students! and for some kids its embarassing to admit that they don't have their own cellphone.

I observed that too. But for me, it's not really a necessity. Because, like me, I don't often use my cellphone especially just for chit chat purposes. Such a waste of time & money. I use it for important matters. I rarely bring it in my school, because I am afraid to the snatchers & holdappers.
