Smooching your baby could infect him/her with disease.

Babies are easily infected with diesases because their immune system is still developing. When adults smooch their babies, there is the danger of infecting them with bacteria or virus which came from the outside. The cold virus is easily passed on this way. There are other viruses, like hepatitis virus which could also be transmitted through ingestion. Be sure to take the necesary precautions before you hold baby in your hands especially when you have just come from work. Better to be careful than sorry.

I agree that you should be cautious with germs but there is such a thing as too cautious. We live in a world that has become obsessed with germs. If you don't expose your children to the world, then they will build no immunities. There is always going to be bacteria and viruses everywhere and there is no way to be protected from everything. My children are very healthy and usually get a couple colds a year, but nothing serious. I always make them wash their hands and I do carry around anti-bacterial items especially for public restrooms and such. They know they need to be cleaned, but they don't freak out about germs and that is the way I like it.

You have a point there. Yes washing of hands is essential to prevent spreading bacteria. It is the simplest form and the most effective method of preventing infection with disease. All the best.

Hi there Jenaisle! You're right. It's hard for some people to resist kissing such cute and cuddly babies but we just have to. Like what you said, prevention is better than cure. Thank you very much for sharing that information.

whenever I'll play with a baby, I always make sure that I'll wash my hands first, and if ever I'll kiss them, I always make sure that my mouth isn't dirty and I don't kiss babies touching my lips to their skin.

I've never done that. I mean, it's better to make them strong from the day they are born. And because of it, I have two boys, that don't easily get sick. From the day I came out of the hospital I would go walk with them, and that was in wintertime. I would put on warm clothes for them, and if it didn't rain, we were outside. It's better to get there immunesystem strong as soon as possible. That's my believe, and it hasn't failed me yet. Have a nice day

Of you're right- make their immune system stronger, but preventing exposure helps a lot to. One can never take chances when this concerns the people we love. Thanks for that vital and enlightening information. Cheers.

I've heard that you should always wash your hands before handling any baby. I would definetly never kiss my baby knowing that I'm sick with something. But when my baby comes, I know I'll be kissing her all the time. I know that you also get germs by drinking off of people, and you don't necessarily know everyone's habits. I don't think people should kiss all over someone else's baby.

Right, that would be the rule of thumb, thanks for that invaluable input. Cheers.
