My novel DOMINICA'S INFERNO was published by Publish America under my pen name Joanna Maharis. It is available thru www.publishamerica.com. It is a fictional work which deals with the issues of child abuse and domestic violence. The book was inspired by my own life experiences. The writer must look within himself to find the drama he wishes to create within the outside world. It's a matter of delving into the deepest, darkest places in the realms of his mind and his soul. It means peeling away the layers of emotional scabs, and cutting into his own soul, through forcing himself to delve into the icy visions of his mind and facing his own past. I call this technique FACING THE MIRROR. It took me thirteen years to get my book published. For so long, I kept getting one rejection letter after another from publishers. I wanted to give up on the writing craft so many times. I even went so far on many and occassion throughout the years to through my manuscripts in the garbage, because of the discouragement I endured. However, my aunt recovered them and hid them away, until I was seriously ready to put them to good use. It's important for a writer to remember that with his power to entertain, comes the responsibility to teach. The world is a stage where we all play out many roles in life. Some have more roles than others. The vast roles of man intertwine with one another so we as a society can function as a whole.

Good for you! I've been writing novels since I was fifteen but I just recently started trying to get my first completed work published. I sent out some queries and such but I just can't seem to figure out how to go about the process without paying an agent and I just don't have the income. I have been wondering if it is even possible to get published without an agent. My husband encourages me to keep trying, though and maybe I should. I had given up until I read your post but I think I'll be getting back to it fairly soon. Thank you. Can you give an aspiring writer any advice?

Dear Alfeebester: Don't give up on your writing ever. If your interested in getting your completed work published, you can go to www.publishamerica.com The folks at PublishAmerica don't charge the writer to get a book published. They believe in paying the writer, instead of the writer paying them. Keep writing. Let me know how things turn out. When your book does get published, please let me know the title of your book. Take care, Kiki (Keola 12)

With the Internet there are alternatives to normal publishing, such as self publishing. Sites like lulu.com and cafepress.com allow you to become the publisher. The days of sending manuscripts to publishers in the hopes of inking a book deal are going the way of the dinosaur. If your book becomes popular from one of these sites, chances are a big time publisher will pick you up anyway. Why waste your life chasing these guys? Do it yourself! Tom www.pixelbliss.com
