Hello all you beautiful people who are grandparents. I think it is so neat that they have a day designated as grandparents day. I think being a grandparent is awesome. I love for my grandkids to come and visit. We have such a great time. I love my child but there is a very strong bond between a grandparent and their grandkids. Here is a link to a short video that says what some have said about being a grandparent. Watch it and know that grandparents are a special breed of people.

Oh happy Grandparents Day to you also - I didn't even know until I read your discussion :( I too feel a very special bond with my grandchildren and horribly miss the 3 that live in Colorado now and I don't get to see.
I told my oldest son a few weeks after the birth of my first grandchild, "I finally figured out why I had kids - for the grandkids"

Oh I've never heard that saying but I love it - think that may be my new motto :)
My oldest and his family moved from Michigan to Colorado almost 2 years ago now and there still isn't a day goes by that I don't cry for missing them.

I am a grandparent and I didn't even know about it. Maybe it is not widely known or not known in Canada

I was surprised when I saw this and I think it is pretty neat. Then I went into the pharmacy that is close to where I live and went over to their card section and they sell cards to honor grandparents day. Pretty neat. I am a grandmom and have three grandkids and we have a ball when we get together.

When I found this out I thought it was pretty neat. They have a special day for everything else and I think grandparents are special so I like the idea of there being a day to honor grandparents.

Well I am not a Grandma yet, but I have seen the joy that my children have brought to my mother and to my husbands parents and both grandparents and great grandparents. I can't (but I can and will)wait until I have grandkids.
HAPPY GRANDPARENTS DAY TO YOU ALL!!!!

Wow i cant believe i forgot that it was grandparents day. The only new one grandparent of mine and sadly she passed in 2005. However, i would go and visit her grave every yr on grandparents day just like i do on other holidays..but for some reason i totally forgot about it this year...this saddens me greatly as i dont ever want to forget things like this..to me i feel as though it means im forgetting her and i dont want that to ever happen.

Don't feel sad because your grandmother lives in your heart. She knows you love her and in the everyday things of life it is just a over site. It is a important one I know but your grandmom understands. And just sit down and talk to her she will hear you. Tell her that you are sorry and you feel bad about it. Peace will come into your heart and soul.

Hi sunshinelady! Happy Grandparent's Day to you! I really respect a lot grandparents like you. Now, I miss my grandmother, "Teodora" very very very much because she's already not with us anymore just early this year. She had taught me a lot of things about life. She gave her unconditional love to me. She was my second mother. How I wish she is still with us to spend this Grandparent's Day with her. But I know she's very happy in the hands of our Creator nowI love you very very very much my Granny and you know that!

Yes, grandparents love unconditionally. We accept the child as who they are and encourage them to do many things. Nothing is out of reach. I know you must miss your grandmom very much. It sounds like she was a large part of your life. Always remember that carring her in your heart keeps her alive always. I know it is not the same thing but you can be sure that she is watching over you. Many thanks for the greeting of Happy Grandparents Day to me. That is very sweet.

I love spending time with my grandchildren. I have 5, but only 2 live close enough to see often. My 10-year-old granddaughter loves to go to the library with me. She takes out books, and we sit and read together. The 7-year-old doesn't like to read, so we play computer games in the library. After our library time, we go out to dinner. I hear all about their activities, school and friends. It's pure pleasure.

Hi mcat19,
It sounds like when your grandkids are over you really enjoy them. I do mine and I am lucky enough that they live close. Once a month they spend a Friday night and get picked up on Saturday night. I totally enjoy them when they are here. I set up the spending the night one Friday night a month so their Mom and Dad could have some time to themselves and I get some time with my grandkids. I have three--one boy who is the youngest. He is eleven. And there are two girls. One girl is fourteen and one girl is thirteen. They all three are joys to spend time with. Being a grandparent is the greatest thing on this earth.
