Which Articles do Well in Associated Content?

I'm now looking into getting more exposure for my writing and ready to give AC a shot. I already have 2 articles there which are given non-exclusive rights. That is because those articles has never been published elsewhere before. Actually, they were rejected Triond articles! I was initially reluctant to publish with them since I don't qualify for upfront payment. But, I thought what the heck? I can republish my articles in Triond there to get a different set of readers for my articles. I will give AC "Display Only" rights for those articles, which qualify for performance payments. I will now channel my rejected Triond articles to Constant Content. The best part is that I can be paid once I reach $1.50, if I have read the FAQ correctly. Furthermore, performance payments are processed monthly, if I'm not wrong again. Someone correct me if I am, please! So my question is what type of articles are doing well in AC? Are there specific topics which seems to earn more for you or get more pageviews compared to the rest? This will definitely help me in identifying the best topics to write for AC. Thank you!

I don't think you can re-publish them on Triond. It is my understanding that submissions to Triond can not have been published elsewhere online. Now I don't know about the other way around because my friends are telling me my articles should be in magazines. Can I publish something in a magazine AFTER I have published it on Triond? We do own the rights to everything we publish online and in magazines. We can publish them anywhere we want really. A gentleman in our writing group writes articles about outdoor activities like fishing and canoeing. He writes for an East Coast magazine but he turns around and submits the same article to several other periodicals and gets them published making a lot of money off of one article. And actually, the experts SUGGEST you do that (I read it in Writer's Journal Magazine) but Triond's guidelines say the content must be "original". So... I dunno.

Hi Pat, it's true that Triond wants an original article which has not been published elsewhere. But subsequently you can publish them elsewhere because they just want to be the first to publish your article. I believe you can publish your articles in magazines after Triond. That is why I make Triond my first stop. As for me, I don't even know which magazines might want to publish my articles. I think I will stick to online publsihing at the moment. Give those magazines a shot!

I think that's a good idea for what you are thinking of. They are the best at paying best of any site I have come across in this area. I publish the ones they request. I also publish articles readers have requested information on. All of that sems to help me. Hope that helps you.

Yes, if they wish, they will offer you things to write about called "Calls for Content". If you accept, the article has both an upfront payment for it and page views. It's very easy. Just go to your message page, once you login. They are listed there. If you claim them, you write about that. the more your write, the more they offer to pay you for each one. I've had articles that paid very well upon acceptance. Then, on top of that, you get page views royalties.

I wonder if I qualify for those since I'm outside the US. But will look into the FAQ about that. Thanks!

That's a good idea. Hmm.. where do I find out which ones they request or requested by readers? You were paid upfront for these articles?

I have work on Associated Content, and I find that articles and poetry do pretty well, but it is all about promoting your content. The more people you get to look at your article, the better. Here is one of my articles: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/977020/pilonidal_cyst_surgery.html?cat=5

Yes, I remember when I first put one of my pieces of works on Associated Content, and it was not what I thought it would be, it was good, but it was not good enough as I saw it, so I kept working at it, and I am still doing my very best to perfect my writing, but it will get easier. Just post one on there, see what the response is, and learn what you need to improve upon, so that your writing will appear more professional.

Promoting your article is very important. But I have been quite lazy to do that I must say. So I guess the next best thing to do is to write a keyword density article, which I'm still at the learning stage. Thank you!

I have a lot of articles on AC (over 300) but I have been writing for them off and on since July 2005. It is weird how some articles will get a lot of page views and others will not. Some of my best performing articles are those on televsion and those that highlight free stuff. I love their bonus program. When I started with AC, they paid a lot better. I was averaging around $12-$15 and article, but that was a couple of years ago. I feel the bonus payments helps to make up for the difference. My biggest suggestion is to write content articles that are also keyword articles. Use a keyword tracker program to find what people are searching for and incorporate that phrase into your articles a few times. Most of my page views come from search engines, as I rarely market my articles. Good luck.

I have never been to this site, perhaps I should pay a visit. Anyhow, coming to your question, I think any human interest articles or writings should be able to attract some remuneration of some kind. The only problem is the acknowledgement with very good payment on most of these sites; unlike what you would get with a traditional syndication firm.

Pardon my ignorance. What's a traditional syndication firm that you were referring to?

Such as Associated Press, Reuters, other news organisations and magazines.

I have just written an article on how to write an article for the web, but it has not been publsihed yet. I will either email or reply to this thread once it's up. Pardon me for saying this, but you might need to polish your English, unless you want to write in your native language, you can try Triond. You can publish an article in any language at Triond. All the best!

@ sweethomecatring, I believe Helium has a mentor program where you can apply to have a mentor help you improve your writing. Personally I haven't tried the mentor program, as I'm only semi-active on Helium, but from the feedback that I have read on the forum, participants in the mentor program have been quite happy with the results so far.

I have had the most success with how-to articles. They are very quick to write. Just fill them with keywords to maximize revenue.

How-to articles are very popular. I think the owners of eHow saw its potential as a money-making business. I have been receiving a lot of advice on keyword density. I'm still learning...

The articles that get the most pageviews for me are ones that Associated Content has asked for. I claim some of the calls and write about the topic. I don't do much else after writing the article and some of them have gotten hundreds and into the thousands of views. Celebrity and social networking articles do very well. They are kind of boring for me to write but they get lots of views.

How does the Calls for Content work? Does it apply to non-US citizens? HOw many people can claim a call? I have some social networking article, not a fantastic one, though. Will give it a shot when one of my article gets approved. Awaiting their reply at this moment.

I do know people who publish the same articles at Helium and at AC and earn at both sites. Triond does allow you to republish an article after has appeared on one of their sites, as long as you don't sell exclusive rights to it. I have thought of submitting articles to AC for page views, as I am outside the USA and I can't sell articles there. I would not post the exact same words at more than one site, because search engines pick up on duplicate content and give them lower ranking in results. I will be interested to see how well you do at AC, and I may try rewriting and submitting some of my higher earning articles there.

So far the article I've got the most page views the fastest was my very last one of the Viewpoints articles about America's First Black President. I think if you do articles on stuff that is currently happening you'll do better. Unfortunately, I hardly ever do this. Also, doing keywords right is stressed alot at AC. If your articles don't have enough keyword density they probably won't pay upfront for them. And, if it's a topic they have alot of articles about already you won't get upfront. Even though some of the ones they've turned down for me have more page views than ones they've accepted. Good luck with your articles!

Thank you sunnflr for all the tips. Current topics are very popular, but I'm not very interested in writing them though. I know that keyword density is one of the most important things in an article, but I have not found out how to that well. can you teach me how to do it. Have you written any tutorial on it you can share with me?

No, I wish I knew how to do it better myself. I don't do that well at AC. I do much better with eHow.

Check the articles that appear on AC as the top ranked and begin to get a feel for it. However, I think maybe the best way to hone in on what types of articles will do well on ANY platform is to first know your promotion sites. If your wanting to promote using Digg, for example, you should be asking what types of content digg enjoys. (highly controversial stuff. If it tempts a comment, it's golden on digg. They like stuff that is worthy of a good argument. I once got front page of Digg in under 2 hrs from publishing an article on ehow.com on 'How to Use Soft Drinks to Kill Rats and Mice'. Many people thought it was mean while others argued they were icky pests full of disease. Once the argument started, I had over 600 diggs, presto. Go to the front page of digg = lots of traffic. Traffic means $. Digg also likes political stuff. Stumble upon likes videos and cute photos and stuff that makes you laugh. I could go on forever but you get the point. Look 'outside the box' of Associated Content and look to how you plan to promote the article once it's published. And yes, use keywords appropriately. Once in the title and then once again in every paragraph for best organic seo results.

Your profile says that you are from Singapore, isn't associated content only for US member only??

Sadly, I can only receive performace payment for the articles there. No upfront payments for me. So it would be another Triond, I guess. Hopefully better.
