what kind of vaccum cleaner is the best?

What kind of vacuum cleaner do you use? Bagless or bagged? Do you have a quality vac or a pos from Wallys World? Do you care about how clean your carpet and home is?

I have a vacuum cleaner which takes bags, as I don't like the idea of tipping out what I suck up all over the place.
Also I have heard that the filters for the Dyson bagless vacuum cleaners are way too expensive, and have to be changed way too often to make it worthwhile
