Would You Ever Buy Pirated Movies?

Canada

While strolling around a city I visted yesterday, I came across some street vendors selling pirated copies of the latest released movies/ I have to admit I was tempted to make a purchase but didn't simply because I was concerned about ethics... the price was definitely right... 6 new releases... twenty bucks... compared to movie tickets for two... twenty-five dollars... my conscience was nagging so I passed on the "sale"... what would you have done?

I tend to use Bittorrent software to download DVDRips and burn them myself. I've downloaded several movies while they were still in theatres, but have found that they were recorded using a mini-cam in the theatre, and usually the sound is crappy, or you can hear crowwd responses (laughing, screaming, etc) and often times a shadow on the screen from someone standing up during the film. But to avoid buying DVD's I do download them usually the first day after DVD release. I also use this method to catch my favorite TV shows that I've missed, or that I want the entire collection of (I have every episode of Mythbusters from the beginning till 2 weeks ago) andalso to catch the WWE PPV's that I simply refuse to pay 39.99 every month for.

PPV prices are definitely outrageous. maybe because of the pirating prices will eventually fall. I agree that the extra "effects" that come with pirated DVD's are very annoying.

i often buy pirated movies. Coz genuine is so expensive, i can't afford to buy only the original one. Some of the pirated movies also have good quality and cheaper.

I agree, image and sound makes the experience complete. Without it, it's like listening to a fuzzy radio signal. at least that's how I felt after seeing a pirated movie. Thanks! ;0)

National Lampoon/ Boris Vallejo - a boriS Vallejo original of the griswalds, in National Lampoon Vacation.
My opinion on this is NO, the quality is very bad and I feel that this type of processing would take things away from the film industry. I have a very avid movie collection and every one of them is store bought, I don't believe in getting pirated things so that someone off the street can make a buck when they downloaded it for free to begin with. For the BEST product buy from the store.

I agree, at least you can return it to the store if the quality stinks. Thanks! ;0)

It sure is but how do you find the quality of the movie? personally I enjoy the full effect you get from going to the theatre so that is my concern about pirated films. I have seen a few and the quality was really bad. has this been your experience also? Thanks! ;0)

I have never bought any pirated movies but my friends have and I have watched them. I think it's just like downloading music. Yeah the artist is gonna be pissed cause they're not getting paid but it's so rampid I don't think it can be stopped. I personally have no need to pirate or buy pirated movies.

Hmmm..I had a friend that bought pirated chinese CDs and someone of them were screwed up. So it is a risk to buy those. But $20 for 6 releases is very tempting, so I probably would.

It was tempting because of the price for me too. However I couldn't bring myself to do it. I was also worried about the quality. Thank you for the honest response, appreciated.

No, not anymore. I used to get them off of the internet, but then you look at the quality and how some of them come in two parts and you figure that there is no point to it. Just get the REAL one.

It's not some muchthe ethics of giving the money to a bootlegger as opposed to the production/distribution companies that make millions, but more so the quality. If you get a crappy or blank bootleg, what are you gonna do expect to be able to return on the same street corner tomorrow with your receipt.lol. You run the risk of getting scammed and loosing twenty bucks.

I agree, quality and guarantee are both important. However the bootlegger is definitely is aware that some folks cannot afford the twenty-five bucks per couple, a movie so I guess he will always have a market regardless of ethics, risk, or quality huh? do you think the authorities can ever put an end to the bootleg business?

I don't buy them. for one, that takes away from all the money they put in to make the movies.. and pirated copies are not quality. I would rather spend a few extra bucks and get the real thing. If you look hard enough, you can get them for the same price as the pirates are selling them.
