Do you bite your fingernails?

If you bite your fingernails, why? Is it a habit or do you do it when you are nervous. I generally do not bite my nails, but when I am upset or nervous I tend to bite them. This is an unhealthy habit because our hands carry many germs. My brother bites his nails, but to be biting. He once got a terrible infection in his nail because of that habit?

I don't have the habit of biting nails but I keep cutting them using my fingers. I get scolded often for doin that but I just not able to get it under my control.

I used to do it when I was younger, I try not to do it anymore though because it can be very unhealthy.
