I have 6 crochet hooks. The sizes are G,D,H,F,C,B. I was looking at a pattern recently that look really easy, and thought maybe I could make it. The hook size was L which I did not have. I was wondering how many crochet hooks do you have and what other sizes might you suggest I purchase.

I tend to use the same one since I mainly crochet just afghans and baby blankets. I use a hand carved wooden 5.5mm hook, which I believe is size I.
I've got some other cheapo plastic ones here somewhere in other sizes that I might use if I needed other than the one I prefer. I don't like using metal hooks anymore after using the wooden one.

Someone told me several years ago that if I tried a wooden hook that I would never go back, and they were right!
They are usually a little longer, but so smooth and feel good in your hand. Since it is a natural fiber, it just feels more natural. Some people that can't crochet due to arthritis or whatever find they do much better with a wooden hook.
Here's a link to one on eBay for sale (I'm not promoting anyone buy it, I have no idea who is even the seller, I just did a search for a picture and this came up. I didn't want to steal the picture):

This is larger than what I use, but you can see how beautiful it is.

You can't go by me because I have around 100 hooks, in all different sizes (size 12 steel up to size S plastic), materials (wood, plastics, aluminum, steel, ivory, bamboo), and by different makers. (Bates, Boye, Clover, Aero, etc.) I bought some new, and I got some of mine from yard sales, thrift stores, and freecycle. I like different hooks for different yarns. I also have many projects going at once, so whenever I start a project I keep the hook with it. I also have extras because my daughters frequently borrow hooks, and I never know when, or if, the hooks will be returned.
Whatever hooks you buy, make sure you are comfortable using that type before you spend a lot. Try one hook first. I use all different brands without problems, but I know several people who can't use some brands. I believe I started with a hook set with sizes from E to K. You should first buy hooks based on what you crochet, but if you think you might like to try something different, pick up a hook or two when you can so you will be prepared.
