I started giving my old cat one small spoon of canned cat food just to see how he would do. I took him in the bathroom and closed the door. Of course he loved it. the next day I went to do the same thing as soon as I picked him up the other cat and the dog showed up for the same treatment. I know they smelled it but how did they know that i was going to give him that and that it was a good thing. There is somekind of communications going on here that I can't catch. Do your animal talk to each other like that?

Well to answer the latter part of your question...animals, whether they be cats and/or dogs, don't "think". They DO however have a highly developed sense of smell...approximately 10 times more developed than humans. The other point is, they DON'T "know" whether something you give them is either good or bad. If you've always been a good master, (as I'm sure you are) then they in their own animalistic way, "TRUST" that you'll forever be that way toward them. Animals only respond by instinct, and repetition. As far as communication among animals goes, THAT...they are not going to tell you. With 5 cats and a dog, I've always wondered how they do it myself? ????? cdrxo

Alright, let me put it in another way. Animals are of course, conscious of their surroundings. But their cognative abilities stem from the point of "reason". They do not per sa, "think" as we do, but rather can reason their situation...and in this way, they are able to determine (or "decifer" if you will) probabilities to problems. This is what I trying to get across. To us I suppose, it DOES appear like they are thinking....but so far on this planet, only humans have this capability. cdrxo

I don't think you meant that dogs and cats don't think, I think you meant they don't think like us. Have you ever seen a dog or cat figure out a problem? Like how to reach the food or how to get out of the place where you've locked them up? If that's not thinking I don't know what it is. I agree that they have much stronger senses then we do, my cats can hear spiders walking on the ceiling. And our hound dog's sense of smell is terrific. In fact it gets her into trouble because once she's on a scent she can't think of anything else. Now that's genetics for sure. I have found that the only time you have to use repetition is when you are asking them to do something they really don't want to do or see no reason to do. If they want to do it, it only takes one time for them to get it. Kind of like two year old humans. LOL

Didn't you know that cats and dogs can read your mind? They know even before you do. I feed all my animals canned food; it is better for their health.

It has to be a high quality canned food without fillers. My 4 cats all averaged out in weight when I switched them to canned food at mealtimes only. They eat Wellness or Natural Balance, made with only human grade ingredients. The fat ones lost weight and the skinny ones put on a little. They get controlled portions twice a day.

Wow, that is very interesting. Maybe they communicated by the dog smelling the good food on your cat's breath when he came out of the bathroom

Thanks for the answer, but I don't think that's it, the Dog and Cat don't like each other
