Oh well today like a good employee I turned up for work on time! The only problem was that I wasn't scheduled for s shift today ( I thought I worked today and off tomorrow and it's the other way round). I then had to wait two hours to get hold of my hubby to come get me I am sooooo annoyed with myself and am such an idiot! Also annoyed I will miss the first football game of the season tomorrow as I will be working Grrrrr! Have you ever showed up for work when you weren't supposed to or am I the only idiot here

If it does THAT to you I'm glad I stayed off it!
Worked enough without doing any extra

Yep I sure have, on more than one occasion. My previous job had me working with kids at their homes, and parents would call my boss to let her know that they didn't need me, and sometimes the boss would forget to pass that on. The worst time was when the parent had influenza and was very contagious! She had to answer the door to tell me I wasn't supposed to be there. It's always nice to get there and find out you don't have to work, but at the same time you put in the effort to get there. I can't recall if I ever read the schedule wrong and showed up on the wrong day, but I know I've showed up at the wrong time before. OOOps is right!

I used to do that all the time when I had to be at work by 6am! I would just wake up on autopilot and go. A few times, one of the other girls would want to go home so I would stay. They often refused to just switch days and I would end up with overtime. I didn't complain at all.
Since I switched to a 7am job, I haven't done that. I also try to remember to check which is my day off and tell my husband so that he can remind me the night before. Two heads are better than one!

Had it been last weekend I might have been able to get an extra shift but as its retail and I don't think we are expecting this to be a good month extra shifts are hard to come by. I was working (or so I thought lol) a 1 -1 10pm shift so by the time I got home I felt I'd screwed up most of my day. Teach me to double check in future.

I haven't showed up before when I wasn't supposed to work. But it just might happen now because my work is changing their hours. I work at a doctor's office and we work 8-5 Monday through Friday. Well, now we are going to work 4 ten hour days and get one day off during the week. Our office will be open everyday but each person will rotate the days off. Like if you are off Monday of this week then you will be off Tuesday of the next week and then off Wednesday of the next and so on. I was telling my mom the other day that this new schedule is going to have me messed up. I'm going to end up going in one day that I'm supposed to be off (just like you did today)...I just know that's gonna happen. I don't think I'm going to like this schedule. We are supposed to start this new schedule on October 6th. Well I was hired 8-5 but now we have to be there at 7am. I told my office manager that I can't be there at 7 because I have a son that can't be at his babysitters until 6:30 am and I work a little ways away from my job so I have to travel about 45 minutes to work and sometimes the traffic is really bad. So she told me I could be there by 7:30 instead of 7:00 but I don't really think I'm going to like this new schedule because I am going to feel rushed every morning.

Eeew definitely not bnice when you are hired to work certain hours and then they go and change it all round and you have no say in the matter. I never have the same shift two weeks in a row (or even two days in a row) but I was hired knowing it would be like that. Hope you get t like it and find some advantages.

Oh dear!
Are you a workaholic or did you sleep a day extra?
What made you think you had to go in today?
No as far as I can remember I have never gone in on a day off but then all the jobs I've had only had one day off a week - and I KNEW when that was
This week I'm off for the whole week and lookslike next week will be the same due to lack of shifts.
Sad about the football I guess though I'm not a fan.
Have a good day at work on Sunday then - isn't that double pay and therefore a better deal than had you worked today?

Can only admit to total incompetence on my part our weekly schedules are posted three weeks in advance and I simply wrote mine down incorrectly - all my own fault! But I wrote it so badly/screwed up that I can't think how I did it. In my defense this is the first time in three years of working there that I have ever done this. I guess it IS better to show up a day early rather than a day late. More annoyed that I am going to miss the first Steelers game of the season!

why not ask for co worker to switch your sched. just once. ask her/him a big favor and tell your co worker its very important. so simple. dont get yourself into stress.

No big stress just really annoying! I couldn't work today as we weren't incredibly busy and no-one had not shown up Getting someone to switch to work a Sunday is nearly impossible as everyone is grateful for their odd weekend days off. Hubby will just get to scream and hopefully cheer at the TV without me as a distraction lol.

Yes many times this has happened to me. There was one local holiday declared and without checking the newspaper I reached office and found it all desserted. But then I had already in the office so half day I kept working on a marooned office and at lunch went back ot home. Thus half of my holiday was lost.

I have done it plenty of times. Your not an idiot, your human like the rest of us and make mistakes every once in a while.
Keep your weekly work hours wrote down on a piece of paper and keep it on the fridge or something, this will prevent you from going to work on your day off in the future.

No, I can say I never have. But I have cow workers who have. One of them did turned up one hour earlier than she should, and told me when I turned up that she should bo home one hour earlier becouse of it. However in our work that is not OK. We work as assitance nurses for Geriatric care so she was really needed. I feel sorry for YOU thouhg, since you have to be up early tomorrow.

lol yep I've been there! I've gotten my days mixed up and did the same thing. Another time I was scheduled to work an overtime day shift and showed up for nights. It worked out because that shift needed the extra help.
