Does it count?

My fellow myLot friends, I am in a quandry here.
I really need to watch my snacking as I'm still gaining weight and that has to stop. The last couple of weeks I've made a simple no-bake cookie several times and if I know they are there, I eat them. A LOT of them. One or two each time I step into the kitchen.
I have done real well the last few days and haven't snacked at all, just fruit and popcorn.
Today, I have to have chocolate!
I decided to make more of this real easy (yet scrumptious!) treat, but absolutely limit myself as to how many I can have and when. They are small, so I was going to put two out for the morning, and two out for the afternoon/evening and that's it. I can't dip back into the container for more.
I just made them and of course I had to taste them as I went along, lick the fingers, grab just a wee bite from the spoon every few swipes, scrape the bowl, you know how it goes.
My dilemna is thus: Since what I just ingested was probably more than two cookies worth, can I or can I not have the two cookies I would allot myself for this evening?
This is so hard, I can't stand it!
Tee-hee .., wanna cookie?

hi ldyjarhead. oh well it doesnt count if you are standing up when you tasted them or scraped the bowl, so there. Now you
can have those two cookies you alloted for yourself for
this evening, heck if you eat them standing up tonight
maybe you can even have two more. but you had better eat
those sitting down so you wont over indulge. lol lol lol so you gotta watch the sitting down ones, cause if you are standing
it doesnt count. Yep I wanna cookie too. thanks.

Finally, someone gets it!
Thank you, my friend. I really thought I was losing my touch there for a minute.

Wow! That's wonderful! You could eat the whole batch at one go since they're no-bake.

It also doesn't count if it is raw cookie dough. The calories only kick in once the cookies are fully baked.
A cookie sounds quite good. :)

well there is some truth to it the more you it the more craving you will experience. before when i was busy and was hardly at home. i don't have that craving. and when i am hungry i can easily forget my craving for food because of my busy schedule. but now i am confined to my home i could hardly control myself from eating many times in a day that is why i am also gaining weight.

Oh I know the feeling..The only way I can keep from eating sweets is to not have them around..I would say take the cookies and give them to a neighbor kid and don't make anymore..
@Ldyjarhead (10233)

I can't do that, don't have any neighbor kids. Besides, I made them because I wanted them, I can't give them all away!

You have more will power than I do then..I make things I like and I can't stay away from it, I just love the sweets..
So if you can just eat a couple once in a while, then good for you..

LoL! You are so funny Ldyjarhead!... but, oh, it is sooo true how hard it is to resist! I love to eat... it really sucks! I love chocolate and god forbid it is "that time of the month", which is happens to be now. Grrrr! It just makes it that much harder for me to resist sweets, especially chocolate. I want it and if it is not in the house (or I'm just trying to be good) I will eat everything else trying to avoid it, then eventually eat it anyways! Now... I've eaten everything else, plus the darn chocolate I was avoiding in the first place which means if I'd just eaten the chocolate to begin with I wouldn't have eaten the rest of the kitchen sink. LoL

Well, it wouldn't hurt to eat an extra cookie even if you just promised yourself to stop at just one. It takes a lot of self control. But you can still start of by stopping at 10 cookies, then 9 and so on until you finally limit yourself to eating 1. Good luck and happy dieting.

If I started at 10, then 9, etc, they sure wouldn't last very long.
But then they'd be gone - problem solved!

I think you are hilarious! I don't like sweets but after reading your post I want you to send me one of your delicious no bake cookies! I'm the same way but with the salty savory type of food. Give me nachos, chips, slim jims, anything salty and I have trouble saying no. Sweets...don't really tempt me. I guess that's good but I still have 20 pounds to lose so obviously something is tempting me right?
Your post did add humor to the day and I hope you keep it up. Nothing like a good chuckle now and then!

I'm glad you got a chuckle out of it. It seems a few here missed all that, but oh well, as long as they don't throw rotten tomatoes, I'm ok with it.

Didn't you get the memo? Did you not see the banners? Hear the parade? It is Calories Don't Count Day! Eat your two cookies LOL! WOOHOO!! I am having two baklava packets (like baklava only the filling is hidden inside the philo), but they have apricots in them so they are good for you so they don't count!

Well these cookies have oatmeal in them for fiber, peanut butter for protein, and cocoa comes from a vegetable, right?
I'm all set - heading to the fridge now!

I am afraid my dear friend, Ldyjarhead that you have just eaten more than the two cookies that you alloted yourself. So I would have to say no you can not have the two cookies you alloted yourself. That being said I probably would eat the two cookies and to heck with the alloting for at least this one time. Just say tomorrow is another day and I will do better then. That is what I do to myself. I need to lose weight myself and I try not to have candy or cookies in the house. Now you notice I said try not to. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I don't. I am a weak lowly human after all.

Hi Ldyjar,
I love cookies too and a lot of times I will be disciplining myself from eating snacks, I am watching my weight also and now that I am working online, I'm sitting down a lot of times! Good thing, I am not making any cookies..LOL! ANyway, it will be okay for you to eat it, just exercise regularly, like what I am doing, I am following at you tube for some steps and I am trying to make it even 20 minutes daily!
It's hard not to taste when you are cooking! LOL!

Well I'm definitely watching my weight, but the problem is that I'm watching it go UP.
I'm sitting all day too, either here on in front of TV while I crochet. I am up and down a dozen times in an hour so I'm sure that helps, but certainly not enough.
I have a recumbent bicycle (thank you, freecycle!) and I try to get a few minutes in while watching TV too, but my knees have started to hurt so I have to be careful.
I try to fit a walk in here and there too, it's exactly a mile to the main road and back. I need to make an extra effort to do that.

Oh,....I love no bake cookies. I scrape the pan and eat the remaining off the spoon too:) I hate to say it, but yes, it does count.
You would be better off eating a hershey kiss or some chocolate chips when you are in chocolate mode. If you make a batch of cookies...they call your name and you will end up eating them~ at least that is what I do. I usually have some hershey kisses and chocolate chips in the freezer. I allow myself 2 kisses when I need chocolate. When the kisses are gone, I use the choc chips but love the kisses better.

You're a day too late!
I usually have some Hershey Kisses in the fridge, but I ate the last one yesterday morning, which is why I needed the cookies yesterday afternoon (or was that Friday?)
Anyway, I've been a good girl (so far) today, I had one cookie earlier and then some popcorn, and that's it until after supper.

It might work better if you set a daily calorie count for yourself. That way you'd know how many calories you had left and if you had enough go ahead and eat the cookies, if not, skip them.
Usually a good calorie count for women is between 1500-1700 depending on activity level. If you are really short like me, have hypothyroidism, and don't exercise enough, you'll do better staying between 1200-1500. No one should go below 1200 though.
All my doctors told me to stick to that level when I was counting cals. Now I have to watch carbs because of the diabetes. But, when I keep my carbs in check I've found the calories stay good also. Sorry, I went off on a tangent huh? lol

Now LdyJ, I'm just like youI can't even help you!
I'm having the same problem! You sound just like me! I try
counting cookies too. It's so hard! I try taking 2. And then
I swear no more! Then I want to go back! It's just too hard!
Why can't they make them with no calories at all and still
taste good. I bought some sugar free chocolate pudding. Did
you know that it has only 10 calories less than the no fat
pudding and it taste horrible! I will never eat it again. I
don't mind giving up the fat, but not the sugar! I have tried
all the tricks and I still haven't been able to find the
best way yet. I eat the damn popcorn which I hate! Nothing
takes the place of chocolate. I have to have chocolate. I
am going shopping this week and will do some more research
and I promise I will let you know what I find out about the
lowest calorie chocolate cookes I can find! I am determined
to find one! So LdyJ, try to stick to the 4 a day cookie program!

I've had periods when I've done real well and was able to keep the snacks to a moderate amount, but the stress in my life has things running amok right now. When it gets like this, there's no stopping me!

You know what's really good, mix butter and sugar. Like when you are making cookies and you have to cream the butter and sugar, it is soooo good.
I'm pretty sure as long as you are standing up the calories just run right through you lol! Nothing irritates me more than dieting, or maybe menopause since the ole metabolism just STOPS!!

That's exactly what happened to me. I went through menopause very early approximately 11 years ago and while I was happy that certain things were gone, it took my metabolism with it!

yes the worse thing you can do is grab a few of this and that you need to see exactly how many you are eating at a time, then you would know for sure if you are going overboard or not.

I do regular exercise, walking about 1 mile twice every day and work-out in the gym for an hour twice a week as well. I didn't stop losing weight though until I stopped eating all sugar-based foods and where I ate more fruit than vegetables, I reversed that and now eat a lot of vegetables, but very little fruit. I feel better for it and have gone down two sizes.
I believe however, that we are all unique and what has worked for me may not work for others. My problem has been quite simply sugar whether in its synthetic form or natural form as in fruit.

Alright gal, I know just the cookies you are referring to. I make them for my kids 4 or 5 times a year, anymore than that and they would be big as barns, cause they are so good. Here's my advice, when my FIL first started having blood sugar problems and some other issues, they told him no sugar. He loves chocolate, so I made him these cookies using the pink sweetner, if it were now I would use splenda. Give it a try, the ones I made turned out so good. My FIL felt like he was cheating, got his sugsr/chocolate fix, and was still staying on his diet, the best thing was all the fiber from the oatmeal. Blessings Marilyn

This is where you have to fool yourself! It's no good denying cravings or you'll just binge. Get a couple of those cookies and break them into pieces, put them in a small little bowl. Allow yourself one or two pieces as you pass the bowl. Or put them in several bowls, but that's it for the day!
Have you tried chromium? It dampens your craving for sweets and you can get it for a few bucks a bottle at Walmart.

That's a very good idea!
I sometimes get a bag of hershey kisses and put them in the refrigerator, and allow myself only one at a time. Occasionally I'll take out XXX number and put them on the shelf and when they're gone, that's it until the next day.
This would be much the same thing. Only problem is these cookies won't break up very well, or if they do, they will be in REALLY tiny pieces, and I know that just one or two very small pieces won't do it for me. I'll give it a shot, though.
No, I didn't know chromium helped with sweet cravings. I'll definitely look into that too!

Ooh ... it's probably too late by now, but I think eating the raw mix is the same as having two cookies. Unfortunately, our bodies don't know whether we are sitting down enjoying our food or just popping things into our mouths for a tester! I like to think it's not counted if I'm wandering around eating and not sitting down seriously - but somehow, I have a feeling I'm kidding myself. Sometimes I try not to buy fattening food ... but then I tend to raid the cupboard for ANYTHING sweet I can get my hands on - chocolate chips, dry cereal, etc. Ah well ... it's a tough life, so a little bit (or a lot) of what we fancy does us good!
