Why do you read tarot?

Do you read tarot? I've been reading since I was a little girl, and I learned the basics from my grandmother who had never seen a tarot card in her life. She read with a regular deck of playing cards, but her explanations of the numbers and the suits and their meanings is not much different than what I've learned in all my studying and reading since. I've found that reading the tarot makes me take a step back from what's going on in my life and look at it from a different angle. Often, when I do that, I see solutions that weren't apparent to me before. I also regularly read for others who come to me for the same reason - they want a "filter" for their experiences.
I'm curious how others who read came to find the cards and decide to learn about them. If you read tarot, what made you start? What do you get from reading tarot?

I use a plain deck of cards that I have wrote all over to help remind me what I think that card means. I just have always wanted to read them and so I picked it up. I really am amazed how accurate they are it is amazing. The cards do not lie!

When you get a chance, go over to www.tarot.com and look for the link to tarot decks that they sell. It's one of the few places where you can see all of the cards in each deck before you buy them. You'll be amazed at the variety of imagery and symbolism that has been used in tarot cards throughout the ages. My avatar is from a deck of my own that I've been playing with for years - that one is the Empress, and I uploaded the Strength card from my deck to the interests folder.
Writing all over the cards is a great way to start absorbing the meanings of the cards, too. The more senses that you involve in learning something, the more likely you are to commit it to your permanent memory.

haha I have a photographic memory so after I draw all over it I can actually remember any conversations I was having while I drew on it and where the symbol I drew might have come from and any words that were besides the text. It is a little odd!
I have been to that website before. I think I will make my own though, I really enjoy graphic art!
