I'm Sick of It!

Do you ever feel like that?I crochet and love playing with yarn to see what various color combinations I can come up with, but sometimes I just get tired of looking at it before I'm done.
If I go to the store to pick up whatever yarn is needed to finish a project, I'll always lay out several other colors in the buggy to see how they'd look together, and invariably come home with more colors than I went in for.
Once I get it home I want to start on the new colors right away, and I have to really restrain myself so that I'll finish the other project first.
And then of course there is the case where the color of yarn needed is out of stock, so you can't finish that one right away so you DO start a new project, and then what? Who to finish first?
Please tell me I'm not alone!(The picture is the colors I just bought the other day. I know chocolate brown and turquoise are hot colors in decorating right now, so I thought I'd see how that would pair with white in an afghan).

Oh, you're not alone! I have a quilt I started a couple of years ago that I put back until I could get more material... and I have seven tea towels to embroider. I loved the pictures when I stamped them, but just can't get into embroidering them. I bought enough yarn to make my daughter in law a throw for Christmas and now I'm looking at it, going, "What was I ever thinking??" I don't want to start it, I want to knit socks! (I bought the sock yarn at the same time.)

I am in the same boat. I have a quilt that all the squares are finished but I have yet to put it together. I had made several quilts for my kids and had the best of intentions of doing this one for a granddaughter. It's still in the bag and that has been several years ago. I am not going to throw it out though. Maybe by the time she graduates in three years I'll have it done!

I was the worst when I did cross stitch. Had lots of patterns and hundreds of little packets of thread, but I don't think I ever completed a single project. How sad is that?
BTW, the picture didn't post for some reason, so I'm sticking it in here and giving it another shot.

Yes I am like that! I usually plan my next project out while I am doing one and then always go and buy the wool for it. Of course once I buy my wool I immediately want to come home and start my new project rather than finish the other one first! So now I make sure that I complete one project before I start on another, I have a cupboard full of unfinished things, and it is doubtful that they will ever be completed!

I have two cross stitch pictures that are part done, a tapestry project I started and did not finish, that was supposed to be a christmas pressie a couple of years ago! I have an eeyore that I had started knitting but have not finished and I recently started a blanket but then I ran out of wool, went to the shop to get some more, and guess what? They had none in stock! So I bought enough wool to do another blanket and started that and now the shop has the other colour back it for me to finish the other blanket off!

I'm glad to know I'm not alone.
When going through my storage locker, I found a few afghans that I had started some time ago and rather than try to finish them, I've been ripping them out and using the yarn for other projects. So far I've done well with finishing them, but I still usually have at least two going at a time.

I do get tired of it all every so often, but don't put it away for too long. When it gets too mundane, I switch to one of my other favorite simple patterns, or switch colors.

No your not alone on that. Me as well, I have blanket started for my son and I got so tired of looking at the same colors. That I started a different one finished that one and desided that I would finish his next no matter what. So this is what I did instead. Read a few books. LOL I will do his when it's gets cooler out. I started one years ago that I just found yesterday doing end of summer cleaning. In my old yarn. That one will take apart and make some thing else. I don't even talk to that person anymore. lol But I aways look at the yarn and if on sale I'm on it like white on rice. lol Read more of you later. Onlydia

I've unraveled a couple of things recently too, and started with those colors to make the new ones, and then just bought more when I needed to.
I love to read too, but I usually just read in bed now to help me get to sleep. I like to crochet because I can watch TV or hold a conversation at the same time. Hard to do that while reading.

I wouldn't crochet in bed, unless I had a TV and was watching that with my husband or something, but I prefer not to have a TV in the bedroom.

That is me also. I tried to crochet in bed. But would loose hock or something if I just fell asleep. lol. ouch. I sit in living room or out on front porch. Now when summer and fall is over will be in house. I have a lot of yarn and books to keep me happy for awhile. Well, at least until I see a sale. lol... Read more of you later. At least I hope to... I know the feeling and no you are not alone lol. When I start a project, knit or crochet, I say I am going to use these two yarns and stick with it. But then I get tired of doing the one project and then I would go put it down and see another cute project I found on the internet that I want to do. But then I remember I still had the one to finish. I currently got a scarf I was knitting in fun fur that has been collecting dust for the last few months due to work. I was working a temp assignment where the commute back and forth on public transportation took about hour to two hours. By the time I get home, I was exhausted and didn't want to do anything. So now I am looking for work again and have a little time now to go and finish knitting the scarf I started lol.

Couldn't you knit while on the commute? I worked on the school bus with special needs kids for a couple of years and we had long routes, so I always had my crochet bag with me to work on as soon as the kids were taken care of, and in between routes.
Sold a few afghans to people at work that way when they saw me working on them in the breakroom too!

I thought about knitting or crocheting a project on the bus and the train after seeing many ladies crocheting baby blankets. I even one time saw a man crocheting chain mail. I will try it one day if I ever have a commute like that again. If I can play my Nintendo DS or read a book to past time, I could get my projects done a little quicker that way. Great suggestion!

I suppose that's a similar feeling. I do well to start an article and then tire of trying to come up with more words to fill it up, and still pay attention to keywords, etc (since I'm writing online).

I do it all the time. I went to Michael's today to purchase a sage color yarn to finish a project I started. They did not have it so of course I had to pick a couple others that does match with what I have at home. Instead of coming home, and finishing all my UFO I am working on the new yarn. I love chocolate brown and turquoise combo.

I'm trying to decide now what pattern to use for these colors, and I'm having a tough time deciding. I'm tired of doing the same patterns, but I like the simple ones that don't take a lot of counting and such.
Sage is what I needed to finish the other one, and I just found a skein, so that will be finished in the next day or so.

I know what you mean! This is the exact reason I don't do a lot of knitting and I try so very hard to not accept custom knit orders.
Most of my knitting is during my lunch hour at work. I'll often head out to my car, eat my salad and knit for the rest of my break... and then put it away until the next day. I might pick it back up while watching TV at night, but I'm often not in a rush to get back to my knitting.
I even use jewelry making as an excuse to not have to knit. Of course, if I sell a few scarves at a craft show, somehow I find the inspiration to knit a little bit more.
I can understand how you might want to start a new project, especially when the store is out of stock and it always makes it tough when you find a new color combo that you can't wait to start using.

I'd love to have orders to do some custom crochet, I could sure use the money. I do it because I enjoy it and find it relaxing, but being able to recoup some of the cost would be great.

I think all crafters have this problem. Unfortunately I have several crafts that I like to do, so it multiplies this even more. I have lots of unfinished projects around, I always say I'm going to finish them, but I get bored so easily.

I can't afford to be spending money on yarn that I won't use, so lately I've been doing very well with this. I've even found old projects that I had half-finished and ripped them out to start a new project again.
That way I get to start something new without having to buy yarn right away, just whatever I need to finish the project.

Well, I am such a procratinator and perfectionist (lethal combination) that I hardly ever finish what I started. I am really good at beginning projects, but I almost never finish. I do get sick of it and I'm always looking for the next bigger and better thing. My house is filled with unfinished projects. Man, maybe I should do some of those instead of spending hours on the computer! Nah!!!

Oh no, you can't do that! You just need to find a good balance.
I've done well this week with finishing up projects. I did finish the one lapghan that I posted about a week or so ago, and I found more of the one color I needed for the black/green/tan one I posted about a few days ago, so I've done more of that, but I think I may run out of the green and need just a few rows worth to finish that one off.
So now I can start my new one - yay!
(Still haven't decided on which pattern, though).

I started the foundation of my new one last night and excited to get enough rows to get to the other colors so I can see what this is going to look like. I'm trying a new pattern and I think it might be too thick, or just not right with varying the colors instead of just solid, but I'm going to give it a shot.

OIY! You are not alone. I've been crocheting since I was a little girl and sticking to one project is hard.
I have two projects at my Mom's house, even. One is a simple baby blanket I can do while holding a conversation, watching a movie or whatever. The other is more complicated and is only for quiet time... ie..when my Mom is also crocheting.
I have several projects going at home as well. And now with my first grandbaby on the way, it's about to get worse! LOL

I don't do complicated patterns because I crochet to relax. I like to be able to watch TV or hold a conversation, I even do it in the car as long as someone else is driving (although I was able to do a few rows while stuck in a huge traffic jam due to construction once!).

I think it's safe to say that this is epidemic and affects all of us.
I just finished as much as I could on the one afghan until I WalMart stocks up again, and I only have a few rows let on the lapghan, so that will be done easily today.
Then I can start on the new one!

I'm just jealous that you can crochet and I can't. I really really wish I would have sat down with either of my grandmothers before they passed on to learn how to crochet as they both knew how. I'm sure they would've loved to teach me and I wouldn't want to learn from anyone else. I do have several afghans and comforters that both made for me as a remembrance of them. Neither of them lived close by as they were both out of state from where I grew up. There are so many things I would have liked to have learned from them, like cooking certain family favorites. My paternal grandmother made awesome cabbage rolls. My sister can cook them and I do have my grandmother's recipe. I helped her a few times in making them when I was really young, like 10 or 12 years old. Did you learn how to crochet and/or cook anything from your grandmothers? I do think you should try to finish your first project before starting another, but I do know how hard it is to try not to. Not in this particular type of project, but others. Good luck and I can't wait until you take a picture of what you are working on so we can all see it.

I did finish up the lapghan a few minutes ago, and as I was going through my stash of yarn, I think I found enough of the other color to finish the black/sage/sand one that I posted a picture of in another discussion the other day.
I've just picked up some bits of yarn from my stash and playing with a new pattern I might try next. Still not sure if I want to do this one or not.

You're not alone!
I do that ALL the time! My mind is racing with ideas once I'm in the store and looking at this stuff. I normally have at least 2 projects going at the same time. I'll get tired of working on one, start another and, before I'm finished with that, I'll start another!
Let me see...yep, I have three projects going on right now... yarnwork projects. I have about 10 different projects going on in different media right now. I make jewelry, work in clay, knitting, crocheting and sewing.
I almost always get around to finishing everything but I get bored so easily if a particular project takes too long to finish that I'll start another, then another, then another...

I've been doing pretty good and only having two at a time going, and that's usually because I've run out of a particular color and started something else until I could get to the store, or the store didn't have it in stock.
I've run out of one color for the last one I was working on (the green/black/sand one I posted a few days ago), and WalMart didn't have any of that sand color in stock, so I went as far as I could last night. I do have just a few rows left for the burgundy/black/white lapghan and WalMart DID have the burgundy, so I will probably finish that today.
Then I can start on this new one. Now the dilemna is, what pattern to use? Someone here on myLot sent me a new pattern that is supposed to be all colors to use up scraps, but I'm thinking it would be pretty with any colors, so I may try a swatch of that.

You knit with your fingers? That's sounds pretty interesting, and I'd love to know how you do that! I'm sure it is tiring on your fingers and not sure I could keep it up either.
Do you have any pictures on what you've done? Or even the pillow that you started? I'd love to see what it looks like.

I now have a huge box of yarn destined for Goodwill.
All those started and not finished projects, scrap yarn and just excess in general. Or of course, there is all that yarn I've held onto for years.
Going to start fresh. New yarn specifically for new projects. No more 'stash'. Maybe that will curb my ADD when it comes to not finishing what I start.
Of course... there's that little matter of my bedroom closet... I'm quite sure I have more yarn stashed there I haven't gotten to yet. LOL

I'd love to take that 'stash' off of your hands! I'm going to start using up all my scraps and pair them with black as the base and make either that one pattern that looks like stained glass, or something.
