I am a primary and emergency care vet tech and I will tell you this about euthanasia. If done for the right reasons it is a tremendous act of compassion. I had a seventeen year old mixed Golden retriever that had been with me from about 9 months old. I saved him from being euthanised by owners who had allowed him to run lose and he lost a fight with a car. They did not want to pay for his treatment and instead decided to dispose of him. I can say with total honesty that he was the best dog i have had thus far. I would have done whatever was necessary for him medically. My only stipulation had been that he had to maintain his appetite and, therefore, his will to live. They day he tried to crawl to his food dish because he could no longer stand was the day I bestowed that very act of compassion on him. And it broke my heart to do it but I gave my friend a well deserved gift after almost 17 years of unfaltering loyalty and unwavering love.

Right on the nose, Glahaye. It is such a hard thing to commit oneself to, but it is a gift when the time is right. My parents had a cat named Eva. Eva the Diva. When she was about 16, she began developing all kinds of "quirks", just strange behavior. We didn't think much of it, she was an old kitty after all, but then she began having litter box problems, and that had never happened before and was just not in her nature. Took her to the vet, who determined she had hyperthyroidism, and she was way off the charts. She responded to medication, but suffered a stroke a couple weeks into treatment. Stopped eating, started sleeping in weird places, which is not a good sign...and we decided the best thing we could do for her was to send her over the bridge. Having to say to the vet, "yes, we're ready..." that was so hard...But, it was so quick, and so peaceful...and it really was the right thing to do. My mom did consider just bringing her home to live out the few days she had left, but she was suffering, and more than deserved the peaceful way out, and I'm glad we could do that much for her. As hard as it is to lose them in the end, the joy they bring into your life is worth far more than the pain of their loss.

yes,two of them,it broke my heart.
one was dying from leukemia/kidney failure and the other had FIP/brain tumor with seizures.
both were in terrible pain and discomfort and i couldn't let them suffer like that.
