"The Sleeping Doll" by Jeffrey Deavers. It was quite good. A suspense thriller, it had a couple of twists that I just didn't figure out. He's an amazing writer and I've loved several of his books. I was very glad to finish this book as it seems like I'd been reading it forever. I have been so busy, I just couldn't get to my reading on some days. How do you feel when you finish reading a book--accomplished? Sad? Relieved?

If I got only few pages away ending the book, I read them even if that will take me overnight because I am excited to finish the book. And if I really love the book, I read it all over again.

Hello anneshirley.
I know what you mean about staying up late to finish a book. Sometimes, the story is just so great that I want to know what's going to happen! It sounds like you enjoy reading the same book again, if you liked it the first time. I haven't done that in a very long time. Take care.

Hello TheDevil.
So, you get excited when you think about the next book you want to read. I, too, have read books that I did not want to end. But you are probably right, eventually, we would get tired of that character or story, I guess. Take care.

For me it all depends on the ending.....if I stayed up and finished it at two in the morning because I couldn't put it down then I feel like I have accomplished something....or sometimes it takes longer if a book doesn't hold my interest but I am determined to finish it....then I feel relieved. And sometimes sad if that's how it ends.

Greetings Jill.
Yes, how the book ends can determine how we feel about completing the book. I like to read before going to sleep because I go to sleep thinking about the characters and the story. I may not get through a book that I'm really not enjoying. I used to make myself finish them but I don't do that anymore. Luckily, it doesn't happen hardly ever. Thanks for your comments.

I usually feel accomplished when I finish a book, then I look for the next book I'm going to read. I like to read alot, especially during the winter months when there isn't a whole lot to do. I usually read Christian Fiction books...

Hello walaijo2008.
It seems alot of people feel very accomplished when finishing a book. You sound like an avid reader. When we lived up north where it was cold in the fall and winter, I did tend to read more, I think. Thank you for sharing about your reading habits. Take care.

Hi eagle_f15.
Nancy Drew! What great books! I read many of them as a child. They are still the best reads ever, aren't they? I don't think I got through all of them though. Guess I just read whatever the library had or whatever ones my dad could find at the secondhand bookstore. It's so great to hear that people are still reading Nancy Drew. Take care.

Hi macoolit.
How lucky you are to have so many books. Would you believe, I've never read an e-book? You sound like a very busy person if you do not have the time to read books. I like movies, too, but they will never take the place of books for me. Take care and thank you for commenting.

When I finish reading a book I feel different emotions depending on the book. There are times when I feel relieved that I finished it and at what happens in the ending. I sometimes feel sad because I'm really going to miss the characters. There are times when I get so attached to the characters in the books that I read. There are other times when I am angry at having finished the book and not liking the ending at all.

Hi there ayumitakashi.
You have explained quite well how you feel about finishing a book. I, too, can get attached to the characters. I know what you mean about not liking an ending--I'll be reading a book I really like and when I get to the end, it's like, "What??!!" Thank you for sharing so specifically how you feel when you finish reading a book. Have a good week.

I have tried to finish reading Jane Eyre. If I finish, I will sure be exciting.
Everytime, I just lose my interest after I turn one page.
It is a super project for me,I guess.

Hello hiddenwing.
It seems you are struggling to get through Jane Eyre. I am embarrassed to say I read this book about 40 years ago and cannot remember one thing about it! I know what you mean about losing your interest when reading a book. If it's not interesting, there's nothing you can do to make it interesting. Good luck with that book, hiddenwing. Thanks for responding.

Hi PearlGrace, Excited and sad and sometimes relieved depending on the book really. If it wa a really good one I get upset as I want to know more and what happened after that and hope the author will write a follow on, some I find hard going and feel relieved when I get to the end but am determined to finish and live in hope it will lighten up the further I read, some do, some don't. Ellie :D

Many people feel the same way as you do about this. How they felt about the book and the plot and characters determines how they will feel when they finish reading the book. Yes, I've read books that I was sad that they were ending. I loved the characters and the story so much, I just wanted it to keep going. Of course, those others you mention, where it takes great determination to finish, are not nearly as enjoyable. Thank you for sharing, Ellie. Huggles.

Hello there sunnflr.
That's interesting when you think about not wanting a book to end. I've experienced that just a few times. But it was a very powerful feeling. I just became so connected with the main character that I wanted to hear more about him or her.
I do read some series but don't purposely select them because they are series. That's fun to hear that you love suspense thrillers, too. That's definitely one of my favorite genres.
Take care.

It would depend on the books - some books, you'd feel so relieved that you have finally finished reading.
There are some, that filled me with admiration for the writer, that they are able to weave plots within plots, or fill the whole 600+ pages with suspense and entertainment.
One of these books was also by Jeffrey Deavers - the Empty Chair. It was really good! I haven't read the The Sleeping Doll - I'll look for it next!

Hello lazeebee.
I read The Empty Chair and it was fantastic, wasn't it? Jeffrey Deaver(s) can sure spin a good tale. If you liked The Empty Chair, I think you'll really enjoy The Sleeping Doll. Quite a good read it was. Many other myLotters have said what you say--sometimes, they are relieved to be done reading a book. Some, even me, don't want their favorite books to end, because they love the characters, the plot, or the story so much.
Take care and thank you for joining in.

When I am all done reading a book, I felt so much better. That way, I can get on to another book that I haven't read.
I have so many books that I bought that I haven't gotten around to reading it since lately been more into wanting to make income at home.
I have some times to myself like now in order to work on it.
I read them when I can and love every minute of learning from self help books.
I don't really read any other kind since I am trying to help myself along the way.
I used to read fiction and such.
I hardly read any parenting books since most seem to be boring to me. I did read some thriller one.

Hi lauriehomebusiness.
Yes, there's just something about finishing a book. It feels like I accomplished something. Sounds like you have alot of books waiting to be read. That is great. It seems you are in to self-help books which is very cool. Nothing wrong with trying to learn something new. Take care and thanks for sharing.

For me i love to read series... so when i finish one it just makes me want to continue on and read all of them... I really love reading and do so pretty quickly hince why i love reading series... but occasionally you will find that one book that makes you sad you finished it because it was so good...

Hello anyabecker. One other mylotter said the same thing about reading series! I guess you get to know the characters and the places really well and then have a different plot each time. I do read some books where the same main character appears from one book to the next, and I love those. Those books would be similar to a series, but not quite.
I know exactly what you mean about being sad a book is over. I've read a few like that and I just couldn't bring myself to start another book for a few days because I just wanted to think about that character or the story.
Thank you for sharing. Happy reading!

Hi DeborahGalasso.
Many myLotters have agreed that if they really like a book, they don't want it to end. Others, though, have said they feel very accomplished when they complete a book. I guess this varies from person to person. And from how each person feels about each particular book. I, too, love suspense thrillers! Thank you for sharing.

It depends the content of the book. If the book is about a great story, I think I will exciting and recall this book for some days. If the book is about a love story and the ending is sad, I will want to forget this book for a while.

Hi leafgxu.
You make a very good point--if the story was sad, we may want to be finished with the book. If we enjoyed the book, we may think about it for awhile. Thank you for sharing.

Sorry to hear that you do not enjoy reading. I wouldn't much like writing a book report either. But when I was in school, I sure wrote alot of them. Hope there will come a time when you enjoy what you are reading and don't have to write a book report. Thank you for sharing.

If the book is truly good, I would feel excited and accomplished finishing it. And there are times, that I wouldn't forget it for awhile, kinda addicted with it. Sometimes I'll read it again especially my favorite parts for a few days and if one of my family or friends happen to read it as well, I'll talked about it to her/him, asking his/her opinion or recalling our favorite parts in the book. However, if the book I read is not that good, I would feel quite anxious to finished it at the same time relieved as well. So, my feelings was kinda depend on the book that I read, if it's good or not.

Hi kylie_quistis.
It's fun to discuss a book with someone who's also read it. That's cool that you go back and re-read your favorite parts. I don't do that very much, unless the book is really funny. I have had trouble getting through a couple of books and been glad when I got done with them. But that usually doesn't happen because, if I truly feel I'm not gonna enjoy what I'm reading, I stop reading it and switch to a different book.
Thanks for your comments. It sounds like you truly enjoy reading. Take care.

Hi PearlGrace! I have been quite busy the last 2 months so have not been on MyLot to respond to anything. Actually, I'll be even busier now, what with my organizations kicking in for fall activities.
Whatever I did or will do, I make sure I keep up with reading - magazines, inspirational, humor, and fiction (novels). I do this in the evening to wind down from all the work during the day. I finished reading Bridget Jones Diary, and it was so hilarious, I wanted to read more, so I am tackling the sequel, Beyond the Edge of Reason. This is ironically funny, because I realize this British "heroine" is unlucky in love and jobs. I hope she winds up marrying at least.
I am contemplating reading Sophie Kinsella "Shopaholic" series next, then "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" series. I have no idea who Jeff Deavers is, but I have read other suspense/thrillers by other authors.

Hello JanetBRudman! It certainly sounds like you've had alot to do lately. Life gets like that sometimes. You sound like a voracious reader! It is a great way to wind down. I loved "Bridget Jones Diary" and I read "Beyond the Edge of Reason" also, I think but I don't remember anything about that one! Sophie Kinsella is just so very funny, I have read a couple of her books. I've not read any of the Sisterhood series but I do wonder about them--whether I'd enjoy them.
Thanks for sharing and it is good to hear from you again. Take care.

i don't really enjoy reading books, but i would rather watch movies or animes that is based on a book written by some famous author... personally, i HATE reading, and i hate reading!! there were some books that i really liked reading, but outside of that, my body just feels like crap after couple of hours of reading.. and there are just some parts that i just could not understand, even though the story seems pretty good.

Hello animeniak.
Movies are fun and I do enjoy watching them. I don't know hardly anything about anime but I've certainly scanned some of the books at the bookstore. There are sure a heap of them! Wow, I'm so sorry to hear that you hate reading. I cannot imagine my life without reading. It's like breathing, really. As a youngster, we were so poor that the library was, well, like Christmas! To think I could get "free books" to take home and read was a treasure beyond description. I could read about any place in the world. I could "go there" just by reading. There were so many adventures to experience, just by reading a book.
I love a good story to this day--all different kinds of them. I have a book with me in my purse or briefcase practically everywhere I go, just in case I have time to read a page or two. I simply could not live without it.
Thanks for joining this discussion, animeniak. Do take care.
