I think some students sleep out of tiredness. If we see the twelth standard students they wont be having any rest .they hav to wake up early in the morning and then go to tuitions then from there to school and in the evening again back to tuition. This routine makes them feel tired na?But some teachers are also reponsible since if teachers take the class in interesting manner then the students will never feel to sleep.Isn't it??

I agree with you, I guess that really the point with all the work load that's sutdents are having on a daily basis at one point they will definitely bee too tired to even listen on what the teacher is saying and also about the teacher if she or he is too serious on teaching the students then they might get bored and learn nothing at all,but on the other hand if the teacher lightens the mood up a little with a few ice breakers then what im guessing is a lot of the students will participate on her class,This one is based on my experience.Hope you liked my response, have a nice day.

maybe the topic's not that interesting. or the teacher's really that boring. or a tired student who went club hopping the night before. or a student is a loner, he/she got no one to talked to and prefer to sleep. or maybe for some who just dont care :)

Aside from from thier they are bored, students sleep during class also because they spend a lot of time at night in playing computer games in internet cafes and in their homes. A lot of students today have their computers at home and they become addicted to playing anime and heavy computer games, they sleep very late at night.

I think there is a lot of pressure on students. School starts way too early in the a.m. They go all day just sitting in classrooms listening to teachers talk. Yes, it helps if the teacher is interesting but far too many are not. then there are sports and homework and they have to eat and yes...even the social life is important. Some even have jobs on the side. It all sounds like stress to me.

mssaranya hi years back when I was in college I had one
professor whose voice droned like bumble bees on a hot day
and before he had talked more than twenty minutes I would
'fall fast asleep. the room was too warm and nottoo well lit
and his voice was very soothing.Once I snorted and woke myself up and he never even heard me.Another time I was in a film as
literature class. they were running a film, the room was dark, and I fell asleep and snorted I woke up snoring and a roomful of people were all laughed. was my face red?

Hey I actually go with the 2nd point. If the class is really interesting and if it attracts everyone, then one can't sleep. Its the teacher's duty to take class in such a way. Of course some students will be tired. Have you ever noticed that they don't sleep in their tuition classes but in School. Thats because, in tuition classes they will be talking in between and the class will go like an interaction session. Thats not the case in School. Teachers do have only limited time and they have to rush up to finish the portions also. Hehe.

Let the lecturers do their duty of teaching properly in class itself instead of taking tuitions. Then students could spend more time studying than moving around from one tuition class to another. And then they would not be sleeply and would be attentive in class. I don't believe that their late nights of playing computer games makes them sleepy, its the lecturer who makes them sleepy. If the class was interesting, then the student would sleep early so that he or she keeps awake in the class.

My 3rd grade grand daughter got a teacher this year that literally talks and talks until the kids do fall asleep! She hosted the "back to school" night and it was supposed to last however long and hte principle went into AFTER the time was supposed to be done and here she was, still talking and hte principal had to shut her down! My GD says that the kids do fall asleep simply cause they are tired of hearing her ramble on and on!!
My son, in his senior year had the only 1/2 semester of required American History in the 4 years, and he said he would fall asleep during it cause the teacher was so boring. I told him that was probably cause he was so smart about American History - he was a self educated history buff. He said, no, mom, all the kids fall asleep - I probably stay awake more than most as I try to keep myself awake by catching the errors in what he is "teaching". NExt thing I know, I get a call from the teacher asking me if would allow my son to teach the class.. and his words specifically were "cause he knows more about American History than I do". I agreed, only if my son wanted to and it wouldn't hurt his grade. My son said, and I later heard his friends talking about it, that the kids perked up big time when he was talking and asked questions and even cornered him at lunch and between classes with questions and things about what he "taught". THe teacher at the end of the semester, told me that he hadn't seen his class so energized until my son "took charge".
So dont always blame the kids habits! Teachers have a big hand in it too!

yeah parentz and teachers should not blame the kids for everything...If they suggests gud points better than them they should have the mind to accept that...Itz not fair showing ego and al...

Some students sleep because they are on medication. Others sleep because they stay up to late. Some students have problems sleeping at night. While other students, are just plain bored. These are some reasons why students sleep during class hours.

There are probably several reasons behind students sleeping in class. One might be they spend too much time on electronic games at night and stay up long after they should be sleeping, so they never get enough sleep. Therefore, they are too tired to keep their eyes open in class. Another thing is, the class may be boring and they just don't have any interest in learning. I know, when I was in school, if you went to sleep in class, you went to the office, so everybody was doing their best to stay awake and pay attention. But, then, we didn't have all the gadgets and games that kids do now days to keep us up. We didn't have cell phones that we took to be bed with us and talked or texted our friends half the night, either.

Hiii
But in somecases cellphones are restricted. So students cant control themselves and sleep...and onething one group of students will be sleeping sincerely and another group will make fun of the students who are sleeping and i have done this in ma school days hee hee...

i have classmates who sleep during class hours and i can't blame them since some professors are mind-numbing... its the responsibility of the instructors to make a dreary subject exciting... ie. requiring students to participate during class discussions, etc...

I read an interesting article about high schools starting classes later in the day here in the United States. They say that when people reach puberty, their internal clocks change. Until then, they start feeling sleepy around 8 or 9 at night. When they reach their teens, they don't start feeling sleepy until 11 at night or later. Then they have to get up in just a few hours to go to class. All kinds of studies show that teenagers and young adults are not at their best in the early morning, and it seems it may have more to do with nature than with staying up late to play video games.
One study showed that about 20% of high school students fall asleep in morning classes. That's a LOT. Many of the school districts here decided to have high school classes start one or two hours later in the morning and they've found that it makes a huge difference, not just in schoolwork but in a lot of other ways. You can read about it at http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6896471

Ask me about it... I am the expert and I would have graduated in a course in sleeping during class hours. Seriously, they could have awarded me a Phd. I was the best when it came to sleeping during class hours... It was so beautiful... and wow!
Ha ha ha.. My iron content was definitely low in my body... On top of that, my aunt used to feed me a full lunch, before going to school.. Obviously, now that's going to make me feel sleepy. Sambar rice, rasam rice and curd rice at 8:15 a.m. in the morning. Now can you imagine???? Isn't this heavy food going to make one sleepy in school?
But sure I was anemic also. And, teachers were damn boring as you said. They were extremely boring. My history teacher was one among them. She would speak in such a stretched tone, so slow, and drowsy... She was old as it is, and she would never read the text book in a brisk manner... I hated following her.
There many such teachers. The only option I had was, just sit in the last bench in the corner where the teacher can't spot me, and put my head down and cover myself with a book and fall asleep for the period. All of us used to fight for that spot so we could sleep.
I slept lovely, in school..... Just enjoyed it.

That always happened on elementary and school students, because of the long hours sitting inside the classroom they feel tired or the subject is boring specially during 1pm class. So students must have a break and have a nap before the class. I do sometimes feel sleepy but i need to wide open my eyes so that my teacher won't punish me.cheers!

Maybe they sleep becouse class are boring. Or becouse they have gone to bed too late the previous day. I my shool some students uses to sleep during the class, most of the times that happens befor the 10:00 Am when everyone is tired. Most of the thime, bfore 10 am everione is asleep and they don't pay atention anyways,so i think class should be later.

there are many reasons. sometimes students are tired that's why they sleep during class hours. it may be the case that prof. is not teaching good. sometimes prof. acts like a sleeping pills so what can students do ? also if the topic which prof is teaching may not be of our area of interest. but i prefer to sleep in room rather than class.
