It is so awful, my daughter started getting a runny nose and a cough. Well I thought she was just teething, low in behold, all of us have it now. But of course we have it ten times worse. Anyone have any cold/flu remedies? What do you do when you are sick?

I work in a high school, so germs are easily carried and passed around very quickly. This past week, I got a cold - it was worse than a normal cold, but seemed to be very fast moving. Started out with a sore throat, then a runny/stuffy nose, then coughing, then deep chest congestion...what I did was take a combination of Amoxicillan that I had leftover from a previous sickness (I know, they say don't save it, but I do and it comes in handy later when I DO need it...and cuts down on doctor bills). I also use Dayquil, Robitussin for the coughing/congestion, as well a decongestant like Sudafed. It's a lot of medicine, but it helps me knock the crap out rather quickly! (Cough drops are also awesome, especially with menthol, so they help open up those clogged nostrils and soothe the sore throat.) I hope your family gets to feeling better soon!!

We have pretty much what you had. We have been taking tylonel flu and cold, and ibuprofen. I am going to go to the doctors tomorrow since I have free health insurance. I am hoping that since the doctor knows us he will give me a double dose so my fiance can take it to since he has a high copay. I can't wait for it to be gone. We've been using a vaporizer at night and it has been helping a little. Thanks for your response. :)

Well, I am answering this a week after you started this discussion, so hope you are feeling better. I know Colds, and such, are no Fun. I actually just got over Bronchitis again myself. I am Insulin Dependant Diabetic so I had to go and get some Antibiotics for it. But one thing I do use when I first find myself getting sick is Echinachia. It is an Herbal remedy you can buy in a Health food section like at WalMart, etc. that is all natural and known to help colds. It also can help sore throats, etc. as well. We keep it on hand and take it at the first sign of feeling sick. Another one also recommended is Vitamin C, or better yet Ester-C. Hope these are of some help.
