At the moment the light is switched off and i am gaving to type in the dark. this is because my mum is sleeping and im outside her room and she doesnt like any light even if i am outside!!
But anyways it is frustrating writing in the dark because i cant see much and takes long time. Do you ever type in the dark?

I type in the dark all the time unless it is during the day lol . I don't have to look at the keyboard when I type as I taught myself the proper way to type with a typing tutor years ago . Typing the proper way picked up my speed on how fast I can type as well . I always thought I could type fast but when I taught myself the proper way , I was amazed at how much quicker I was and the more I type something the faster I can type it .
My son finds this annoying because it takes him close to ten mintues to answer a discussion with a couple of lines and I can answer a discussion and feel a page and it only takes me a matter of minutes :)

I am used to typing in the dark when I wake up in the mornings because I get up at 4 am to get ready for work. Usually I check my email to see if I need to respond to anything right away. And writing in the dark is no problem either because the monitor provides enough light.

Well, I hate typing in the dark, but when I have to, like when my brother wants to sleep (the internet cable is in his room), he turns off the light, so I'm forced to type in the dark. So what I do is to bend the screen (I'm on a laptop) towards the keyboard. It helps to light up the keys, but it's still difficult and I hate it.

As much as possible I don't use the computer in the dark. It's a bad habit because it affects your vision. I CAN type in the dark because I don't even look at the keyboard when I do - just like most of us. My reasons for preferring the light switched on is really for my eye sight.
Your working environment is really supposed to be twice as bright as your monitor. That would lessen the stress from your eyes that you get from staring at the screen for a long time.
Regarding your mum, well that's a different matter haha if I were in your place, I wouldn't mind because I also don't like the lights on (even if it's outside, just as long as it peeps into the room). So I don't mind if my mum would ask me to turn off my lights for her :)

I type in the dark everyday Hehehe.. My parents go to sleep by 11:30pm so I have to put off the lights. My bedroom is adjacent to theirs so they don't like the light coming into their room.
I sleep at 2:30am or 3:00 usually so till that time if I have to type anything I have to type in the dark. And the best part is my keyboard is also black in color Lolzzz... So that makes it even more difficult for me to type. But now I'm kind of used to typing like this. However while chatting with my friends and typing fast in the dark I tend to make a lot of mistakes. But they are used to it as they know the reason why...
It is a bit of a problem to type in the dark but not that much of a pain. If one knows to type without looking at the keyboard then typing in the dark and in the light would basically be one and the same for them.

I like to use my computer at night, I can type in the dark (the screen gives off enough light to see the keyboard anyway), but it hurts my eyes to look at the screen.
Maybe you should get a small anglepoise lamp, or even a standard table lamp. Other options would be to purchase some small USB lights , or even make them using parts from an electronics supplier. A backlit keyboard is not expensive, but wont save your eyes.
Maybe you could draught proof your moms door so there wont be much light seeping into her room.
Hope any of this helps
