It is now 9 days since Sarah Palin was chosen by John McCain as his running mate and should they win a mere heartbeat away from being President of the leading nation in the western world. So how come she still hasn't been allowed to be questioned by the press they have not been allowed any access to her whatsoever.
I find this appalling and somewhat wrong. In this day of freedom of the press and access to information should a candidate have the right to be "withheld" from the press and effectively gagged when it comes to answering any questions. Anyone can read a pre-prepared speech but that is not the same as being quizzed. What are they afraid she might say/
Do you think this is right that she can be kept away from the press?

She has agreed to do a interview with Charlie Gibson of ABC news. She may have chosen Charlie because she thought he might throw some softball questions towards her, but she may be sadly mistaken.
Take a look at this. They've already listed the lies she told during her speech at the Republican Convention.

The McCain campaign has complained that the press coverage of Palin has been sexist and intrusive in asking whether she is capable of being a mother to five children and vice president at the same time, and delving into the pregnancy of her 17-year-old umarried daughter.
Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager, told Fox News today that Palin wouldn't subject herself to any tough questions from reporters "until the point in time when she'll be treated with respect and deference."
Sounds like she may have biten off more than she can bite.

I did just see a hint of the Charlie Gibson interview but is it actually confirmed yet (have you seen the mudflats blog interesting compulsive reading lol).
I find the sexist/intrusive comments amusing. When you consider all te comments that have been hurled Obama and Hillary s way to say you can't say a thing about her is unreal. I am a woman and probably a feminist is some peoples eyes but even I question whether a woman with a four month old baby and another small child does have the time to be VP or President. I do her agree her daughters pregnancy is a private family matter but when she then brings out the daughter and boyfriend on stage at the convention then sit is she not others who is inviting comment. Ah the thought of "respect and deference" in politics now that will be the day and if thats what they are waiting for she'll be silent a long time.

What's wrong with asking for respect? Especially after all the lies being told about her she can hardly be blamed.
The article itself is doing a bit of bending of the truth. She put the plane on ebay that's been proven. She didn't say it did not sell on ebay so suddenly the whole thing is called a lie. I don't know about the "victory" comments. If there is any video of Obama saying it and whether it can be construed as Palin meant it I'd be interested to see it. As for the other things said there is a grain of truth in them.
I have seen criticism and literally made up nonsense on all the candidates. I can't believe so many people are willing to believe anything just because they dislike someone and their politics.
We're on the verge of making history and we are turning it into a joke.

Tonight on Fox News she was on a special report to show how she lives and to answer question, why is it that as soon as McCain picked this woman, everyone finds something to cmplain about her. I would think that especially women would be glad that for once we might have someone who will go to washington on our side. Not someone who is going there for the glory and what ever she can reap for herself. I think they have been on the road since the speech and trying to get in the states that they need in Nov. Who said that she was being withheld for the press. I see her around them everyday. You seem to want her grilled to see if you can find out something that will make her look bad. I think she is a great mom, no different from what I was or what my daughter is now. I think she will take Washington by storm. If you dont' like her that is your opinion and no one has the right to change your mind. But you act like she is being hidden from everyone, and I see her in the news everyday.

It's only been 9 days and last week was the RNC convention. Now, in a couple of weeks if she still seems "protected" from the press, then I'll be joining in with you wondering why.
The thing is, Obama has been on all sorts of press shows but has yet to be challenged on any answer that is either a blatant lie, or later is exposed as a lie.
I wouldn't support protecting Palin from the press, but I don't support the press protecting Obama either.

She's apparently relented, or maybe it was the McCain camnpaign's doing, and agreed to give an interview to Charlie Gibson sometime this week I believe. She's probably now memorizing her scripts of what to say and what questions to refuse to answer. I have no doubt there will be some outrage from conservatives who will feel she's treated unfairly. I know, the interview hasn't even happened yet, but I have my crystal ball running...lol!

Well Palin will have to meet the press sooner or later and she will have to take part in the VP debate. So there is ample time to get to know her more. If I were the Democrats, I wouldn't waste my time attacking Palin personally or going on about her family life, children or whether or not she has been a hypocrite. Instead, simply focus people's minds on the Republican party and their record and say that McCain is attempting to be the shopfront window to entice voters into she shop, but by his appointment of Palin, he has revealed the real Republican party beneath, that it has not changed despite his best efforts at window dressing and that it is they who will be in charge, pursuing the same policies as they have done over the last 8 years.

Maybe she can go on "60 minutes" and get one of those softball puff pieces like Lesley Stahl handed to Nancy "9/c" Pelosi just before the 2006 election.

Or we can turn this question around and say "Is Oprah a Hypocrite for NOT having Palin on her show?" I know that it's her show and she can have or not have anyone she wants. But she says it's because she "doesn't want her show to be a political forum." Even though BObama wouldn't have had a chance without her support.

Yeah but really, Be serious for just a minute. The press right now is a rabid pack of wolves. They are looking for blood and each one of them wants to be first(well Except for Oh!prah, And I'm Sure she is going to need some preparation time. And also time for the press to embarrass themselves with all of the insane rumors and crap going around right now. It's a strategy. It may work,it may not. That's the thing about a strategy. So much of a sitch is out of your control so you try to do what you can with what you have control over. But seriously did you SEE that interview with Leslie Stahl? Marshmallow puffballs with sprinkles all over them compared to what Palin has waiting.

At the moment I'd be grateful to hear her answer ANY question from anybody they certainly seem to be mounting up - the questions we'd all like answered. To be able to stand on a platform stating things that are contradicted by the facts without any opportunity for comeback is an abuse of the system. This is the woman who we are to believe could be President and deal with all that entails both nationally and internationally and yet she cannot answer as yet any press questions. That seems to be stretching it a bit.
