People who can't control a dog should not walk them in public places.

I witnessed a site today that sent shivers down my spine. Two girls, who appeared to be in their 20's, were walking a pitt bull on a leash on a busy sidewalk. A woman with a Boston Terrier on a leash was walking up the steps to our local Friendlys. It was all the two girls could do to control the Pitt Bull. He lunged and growled and barked at the Boston Terrier. One girl was holding the leash while the other held tight to its collar. The owner of the Terrier was frozen in terror. You hear of tales of Pitt Bulls attacking people all the time.
The girls clutched the dog and it was clear that they both were worried about what could happen by the looks on their faces. They jerked the leash and collar of the dog and managed to take a few steps away from the woman and her little dog. All the while the Pitt Bull growled, bucked and yanked at the leash in hopes to break away from the two girls who were so desperately trying to get the dog to go with them.

well people make it to seem like pit bulls are so mean and they attack people. but if that dog were any other big dog it would have probably done the same thing. it's not just a pit bull that does things like that. it's any dog.

This particular dog was being walked by its owners who clearly could not control it. In this case I feel that this dog should not be out in public places. If you cannot control an any dog you should not bring it into public places where harm can come to anybody or anything.

ya if u are gonna have a powerful dog like that u have to have complete control over them! by the sounds of that they dont socialize that dog very well. i make a point to socialize mine very well. when we are out on walks i dont have to cross the road if a dog is coming, my girl is friendly. i had a problem one day when the other dog passing jumped at my pit, which she then tryed to get that dog for jumping at us but the second i pulled her leash and changed her direction of thought she was fine and just forgot about it

It was very clear that they really didn't have control of this dog. If they had they would have diffused the situation quickly. Dog owners have a responsibility. What would have happened if this dog had attacked this woman's dog? If you are a dog owner, please make sure that this will never happen. If you have no control in your home, odds are you will not have control while out in public with the dog.

I'd have to agree with you in that along with ownership of a dog, comes a number of important responsibilites that apparently, a number of people may not be aware of or be serious about fulfilling. Especially with respect to certain breeds, the owner should be additionally mindful and ever watchful, particularly in public environments which potentially share the space with other animals.

I so agree with you. So many people jump into ownership with out fully understanding the huge responsiblity they have taken upon themselves.

Well, for one...it wasn't trying to get the person, but they dog. Regardless, they obviously didn't socialize their dog with other dogs when it was a puppy or it wouldn't have been lunging. My dogs haven't been through obedience classes...but I do have control of them when we are in public. They don't growl at other people or dogs. Sometimes they try to go play. But I make them sit & pay attention to me until the other person is passed. I am planning on puting my dogs through obedience classes so they can learn how to just ignore other people & animals. But despite the fact that Pit Bulls aren't what their reputation says they are, when you know you have a dog that has a bad rep, you don't help increase that rep by having a badly behaved dog. You're supposed to do all you can to shine a good light on your dog. If you can't train your dog well yourself, go get professional training.

I believe the same thing, I often have to walk in the street becuase their dogs are all over the place and I don't know what type of grip they have on their dogs

I told my sister what I witnessed and she said she is seeing dogs on the loose everyday now. She walks to work and now wonders if she should get Muzzle Spray from Mace.

Yes I agree as well! A pitt Bull is the most dangerous dog in the dog chain. Many people have been attacked by them and killed.

many cities require here to make meanwhile that the owners of combat dogs a kind driving licence must, but unfortunately still many humans with a combat dog the such could not deal a dog.
