human beings are the only ones in this world which has the power to think, differentiate, make choices etc. other creatures go by instinct. lets take the element god away from this and analyse this critically, logically why human beings are special amongst all living creatures?

I don't think we are special. We are the most destructive and dangerous species on the planet. We are the only species that makes other species extinct through destruction of habitat, pollution, hunting for fun, and by messing up the whole ecosystem by plundering the planet.
Really we are the dumbest creatures. We have false pride in thinking ourselves superior. Other creatures communicate through language and have intelligence too. Some creatures use tools and some can create structures to live in.
We all have our place in the universe, but mankind which will probably blight the earth so much that one day we will no longer be able to survive.

paid2write - I whole heartedly agree with you ! As a species, we are sooo NOT special. Tho it appears that in general, we certainly seem to need to believe that we are. I've never felt that human beings were/are at the so called top of the food chain, nor to I believe that human beings are the only species capable of thought, choices or even compassion... And indeed, the human being is the single most destructive occupant on the planet. It's actually sad that as a species we feel this need to control and belittle the abilities of other creatures as well as the planet itself - when we could (and in my own most humble opinion)learn so much from those we share the planet with...

we're all part of the circle of life, every species has its role in this whole nature thing. we're all predators and prey. all species use their instincts to get want they want and do what they want and work for it. i do believe that all species think and make choices too. no one is greater than the other.

ya your right,...i think the evolution is the reason behind human instincts.actually speaking humans are far more capable than we could imagine, not only thinking,differentiate,etc..so evolution is a continous process and this will even increase the human capabilities in the future....

Asking what makes human beings unique brings mind a seemingly endless list of attributes and activities, both positive and negative. We are unique because we have our own will. It means we have options to choose from what is right from what is wrong. We also have the ability to adapt to our surroundings, and in thinking ways on how to survive. What makes us human is that we make mistakes but from there on that we are able to grow. We humans have the ability to grow physically, emotionally, psychologically, & spiritually.
