Do you read existing replies before replying to a discussion?

Hi mylotters,
I just saw some discussions which were quite resolvable with one single reply. But do we tend to reply those as well, for the sake of having more replies?
Do we tend to read the existing replies before we reply? If the question is very easily answered by the first post, do you go ahead and post there again?
Have you ever been tempted to give a different reply than what we initially intended after reading the existing replies?
I am just curious to know because this has happened to me a couple of time already.
Thanks for your time.. and happy mylotting..

Hi there sreekumarn86!
I do read responses posted on certain discussions most of the time. If I have lots of time to use for my myLot activities, I do read. However, if I only have few minutes to spare, I would just respond to the discussion at hand. Reading the existing responses do not make me change the response I have intended to post.

Hmm, but at times what has happened to me is that the way i have interpreted the question is not the way the responses there indicate other's understanding of the Question. Those times, i have re thought on my reply.

But perhaps they need your different interpretation. You may be the only one who understood what the original poster actually meant. In that case, you should still answer the way you thought was appropriate.

hi buddy.. i can say that when i am replying to the discussion i at first will never wish to read others response for that discussion.. because for that discussion i am going to express my views and others views will no way affect my views.. but after i reply to that discussion i will have a look at others response

I read some of the other replies. The first one might answer the question but there also might be other points of view that need to be shared. Nothing is ever really black and white. There are as many shades of grey as there are people in the world. I love to get a variety of answers. I learn so much more that way.

Nope.
I have my reply in mind when I read the discussion subject as posted.
I always find a lot of replies unworthy of my own thinking anyway.
So I think up my own stuff and post that.
Its a lot easier for me that way.

friend, first of all congrats for reaching the 100 post why not you read reply first on the discussion, for giving the responses on the discussion you have to read the other responses too.to get a good idea from them and give comments too good one reply in the discussion.that why you will have to read each and every reply over the discussion.for good comments on other or getting good idea.if you don't want to respond, then also you have to read these replies.

Sometimes I read and sometimes I don't. That's the fact because sometimes replies goes for pages and pages and it just takes to much time to read. However I do read discussion replies that really interest me. I tend to reply after skim reading the first page. I don't know how much time you all spend on reading replies that sometimes can be useful.

Yeah, one thing that's true is that the responses go on pages and pages. I try and read only the first page max, because it is not sometimes worth spending that much time reading what others think about what you already have a solid opinion. Only point is somehow avoid the same thing posted over and over again. I don't consistently read all of them.

This is good question to raise. I think people here do not read the existing replies already made to the discussions. Some time the contents of the discussion are not clear in the beginning or at the end of the discussions as it is comprehensive and technical. In the first reading some charities are required and due to language problem we have to approach the replies already made that helps to understand the things. As about the resolving the discussion by its first reply or existing reply and what is the fun to reply the discussion, I would like to make you think that if you look like this you can not and how the more responses you will fetch to your discussion if every one starts thinking like you. Any way comment and have a nice day.

Yeah, that is one truth. But i wonder if the number of replies one get is quite related to the success of the discussion. As long as the issue is resolved, i guess its fine. I am not 100% sure about this, as i will be sad if i get very less number of replies. But say a question like 'how do i view my daily earnings' question i guess expects no more than 1-2 replies. Am i right?

I enjoy reading how others respond to a post it gives me some idea of what people are like and how they think ,some days thats all I do read what others have to say and don't get around to posting myself.lol. Maybe we should get a payment for reading posts as well.

If its one with more than 4 or 5 replies i wont read every single one, but i will read the most recent. My main reason for reading them is so that i dont end up saying the same thing someone else has, and just looking like im out to copy others thoughts or ideas to make a penny.

That's true, if its a long discussion. If we have to the point answer type questions only, reading it makes sense. In that case, we can avoid posting the same thing over and over again. In other cases, we definitely have the right to just say what we feel.

It depends on the discussion. If the discussion is about asking some doubts in mylot, people can very well solve it in their first response. In that case I will read the replies. If I have different opinions that I wish to share with the thread starter I will reply. Otherwise I won't. And if its some other discussions, I don't generally read the replies. I will reply what I feel. Happy mylotting.

I don't do this as much as I should and a couple of times not doing it has bit me in the behind because what I was asking about was already answered five posts ago! That's embarrassing for me.

I used to do that every time I respond to a discussion. That's why in most of responses there were usually reference to others' responses. But, I don't do much of that now cause it took a lot of my time.
I don't respond to all the discussions that I read. If I see that the author may have been satisfied with the responses already posted, I don't post anymore.

When i respond to the discussion through my email... i don't have any way of reading the response... only when i finish... but when i am surfing the mylot site... and see and intersting discussion... i would always read the other responses... and give my own opinion... it doesn't matter if mine is the same with a lot of those who responded...
