Are you afraid of darkness?

I know of some people that are afraid of the dark, they cant be alone in a dark room. Why? maybe because in the dark, you cannot see anything, thus things around you are unknown to you and people are always afraid of the unknown since the dawn of men. However, i prefer the dark because it gives me a sense of tranquility and nothingness, it creates an abyss in my hectic life, it is only in the dark that i could really clear my mind and rest. There is nothing to fear in the dark. I love the dark. :D How about you?

I have to admit, I'm afraid of the dark! 26 and afraid of the dark! I don't know why and how I became that way. I'm ok in my room in the dark when I'm sleeping. I have no problem with that but any other place that is dark, I fear it. I'm especially fearful of the basement. Always have been. We've even moved houses and I still don't like that darn basement. Ah well. that's just me.

Hahaz. The basement is something that scares my brother too, he will not go down there unless there is another accompany him. Maybe because most basements acts as a storage shed to store things and its seldom maintained thus it "feels" scary. Thx for your response

I love the dark too! I find it very relaxing and tranquil as well. It's very soothing as creepy as that can sound. I can't fall asleep if there is light in the room some nights I even turn the alarm clock against the wall to get rid of its annonying light. I think I just love night time. I usually walk my dog late at night too and people find that to be the strangest thing, but I've always been a night person ever since I was a little girl. The one thing that does scare me though is looking into a mirror in the dark...that I can't do lol! I know this will sound stupid but me and a friend tried the whole bloody mary thing when we were about 6 or 7 and we swear we saw something so to this day i can't look into a mirror in the dark lol...

Hahahz, the bloody mary thing. well, mostly we see what we seek to see. So in the dark when u look inside the mirror you try to "seek" the things that you want to see but because you are terrified of it you scan through the environment very fast thus images that you capture are vague and plus the fact that you just heard the bloody mary thing, it scares you more. Yea.. i cant sleep in when there is light too.

well, i do not know about you. but then the reason which i could derive why some people are scared of the darkness and start to have wild thought is because they cannot see what is next, and this cause uncertainty. therefore, i would suggest that they be feeling secure of what's in front of them to overcome the fear.

When I was a little girl, I needed to have a nightlight on or the TV on because I would refuse to sleep in the dark. I had this bad dream that this nasty shadow would come out the closet and it would lift me out of the bed and take me away. Now I am 25 years old and have grown out of being scared of the dark. I actually view the darkness now at bedtime as peaceful.

Many small children are afraid of the dark including my little brother. Many times these are created by fear of the unknown which is induced by horror movies or ghost stories. Yes, when you start to grow up, you tend not to be afraid of it anymore. thx for respond

to me, brightness and darkness is part and pascel of everyday's life. therefore, for my case, darkness is not something for me to explore, rather it should be already in my life and i should venture into new things

Yes. After you have explored the dark in your young life when you are a child you tend to grow out of it and thus want to explore sometime new. Also when exploring new stuffs you are often afraid. thx for respond

I used to be okay with the dark, but then I was able to see things from the unknown world often so since then I've always had a night light on. Also, now I really need to have a light on because my daughter cries when it's too dark.

People that are afraid of darness are not so much afraid of it but rather than to be left alone with their own 'daemons'. http://thedayifreakedout.blogspot.com/

I don't like total darkness. I am very claustrophobic and darkness makes me feel like I am in an enclosed space. Not a good thing! I like light open airy spaces.

Thx for sharing! I guess that it is not a good experience in total darkness in your shoe, sorry to hear that you are claustrophobic.

Haha, I know! There's nothing to fear, and I love darkness too... However sometimes the body and mind betray you. Watch a really convincing horror film... and before you know it, you would look around and check if there was "something"... :D There was once my confidence was wavered... and I immediately turned on the lights in my room! Hahaha...

yes ,i agree with you very much .to be honest,i feel it is very happy in a datk envirments, because we can think something carefully in that condition. if we live in a bright envirment enery day, we may have no time to think this questions and to relax ourselves. so i also love the dark condition.thank you.

ummm I'm not afraid of darkeness. I'm afraid of being left alone in a room by myself. Since I was little if everyone left the room I would follow. I was always in the living room and not in my bedroom. I don't know why. Weird??

it is quite normal. somehow u feel secure if someone side beside u as u know u can share ur fear with (if anything scary happens) but then if ur by urself, u know that it is all on u.

Hmmm I am not afraid of the dark, in fact I find that it peaceful and restful. I cannot sleep unless my room is dark. Darkness is so nice for your eyes. In fact there is an exercise that you should do for your eyes health calmed palming. This is where you cover your closed eyes with the palms of your hands so that they are in absolute darkness. Your eyes need the dark for rest and so does the mind, because even when you close your eyes they can still see light through the closed lids. But even though I love the dark I get scared if I have to move around in it and cannot see anything. Your eyes adjust to the light that is available so if there is any light at all then you will be able to see something. I once stayed in a hotel in Mexico that was a converted monastery and when the lights went out in your bedroom you could see nothing. There was absolutely no light at all. That was scary. I am scared of falling over when I cannot see.

I have to say that it depends sometimes. I don't really like being in pitch black. I used to actually be very afraid of the dark and what could jump out at me. I kind of got over that a while ago. I like to have a little lighting on somewhere especially when I am going to sleep at night.

Thx for sharing :D. Well, i can only sleep in pitch dark, i am a light sleeper thus i am very sensitive to my surrounding when i sleep thus even small movements or some form of light could wake me up.

I am afraid of the dark BUT only when i am alone. I keep thinking that if i am with someone, and something appears i'd throw that person into the "thing" that appeard and then run away xD. Anyways yeah that's about it, I believe people are afraid of the dark because they don0t know whats around you, then cant see but can feel it, creepy X-X

I have no problem with the dark and actually have very good night vision. So much so that my friends call me "cat eyes". I have no fear of being in the dark because the dark is not all that dark. Once my eyes become adjusted I can see where I'm going and don't bump into anything, even if I'm outside.

I would never want to be in the dark! i just cant stand staying in a room without any lights on. It is not because i am afraid of something or i started to think about scary stuff. I am not comfortable staying in a place where i cant do anything but look at the ceiling and listen to the crickets or any kind of sounds youll hear outside. It is kinda boring for me to stay in a dark part of a room not doing anything. I prefer to be with my hubby and spend time with him than be alone in a dark room.

Well, i guess you are afraid of feeling bored and alone. It sorts of the opposite of what i am feeling. I want sometimes to be alone and be bored because it is very tiring doing things all the time. thx for sharing :D

I am not, well I was earlier, after going into details of ghosts, and why they lurke only in dark, its like nothing hidden from me, so there is no point in getting frightened when u know its just brightless time with only ur eye rods active, which mense things the either way. but when u go against it, u wil enjoy. GOOD LUCK.
