i have a 3 year old and she still takes long naps, usually somewhere between 2 and 2.5 hour naps. My 5 year old takes naps when she doesnt have school, she still sleeps for 45-1 hour. and even at school she has a 30 min. lay down time. (she goes all day kindergarten). What is the average age for naps to be done with? i dont want them to end, i think they are wonderful!!!! but people look at me like i am nuts when i tell them that 1:00-1:30 is when i lay my girls down for a nap. And this is from moms with kids the same age as mine. Also some friends of mine who have kids around my kids age, when i watched them, they fought me when it was nap time, they didnt take them. I think that naps are good for kids (and adults) because it gives them their second wind and if they are acting up, it gives them a fresh start... What is your take on it?

My 19 month old still takes about a 1 1/2 -3 hour nap during the day. My son will sometimes take a short nap still when he does not have school and he is 8. I don't think there is a right age. As long as the nap during the day does not interfere with going to bed at night I would not worry about it. Heck, I am 30 and I sometimes like to take a nap during the day too.

My children gave up there naps by the time they were three years old, but they did go to bed at 6pm. They used to take themselfs off to sit on the bottom step and cry to go to bed.

I have 5 kids ages 16,15,10,7,5 somewhere along the way they were at your kids age. Anyways, I don't force them to take naps. I tell them to but I don't imply or make it a rule. I hated naps when I was a kid. I always have to hide when it was nap time behind my moms back because my elder sisters wants me to take the afternoon nap. I just want my kids to enjoy their youth. They play, watch tv, read, write.. when they are tired they go to bed and sleep. Sometimes when I come home from work after my night shift and I sleep in the afternoon my youngest sleeps beside me even if I don't tell her to. Sometimes when they come home from school and they are tired they go to sleep and play after. It's ok to give the kids naps It's healthy for them and I don't blame you for that. I guess we just have each our own ways of raising our kids.
