What is your favorite cold-weather meal?

With fall approaching, and cooler temperatures, we start thinking about those comfort dishes that we like to eat in the fall and winter. We usually eat more soups and stews when the temperatures start dropping, and I use my crockpot more to make one-dish meals. I would have to say that a big pot of homemade beef stew is my favorite. What is yours?

I really like to have chili soup and grilled cheese sandwich when it is cold out. I like to dunk the grilled cheese sandwich in the soup. Homemade chicken and noodles is another good cold weather dish. Beef stew is pretty good, too.

This is usually the time that I start getting monster sized cravings for my husband's homemade chili. I'm not a real big fan of chili any other time of the year, but fall rolls around and I just gotta have it, especially my husband's. Don't know what he puts in it, since he keeps his recipe a secret from even me, but it surely is good.

It was very chilly and rainy here yesterday, and I was craving chili - didn't have the ingredients on hand, so didn't make it - I need to restock my pantry!

My favorite cold weather meal is a hot bowl of chili or homemade chicken noddle soup. Its getting close to that time where the weather is going to get colder and a hot bowl of soup would be great.

I'm sorry to hear that you can't find the ingredients for your favorites. they are comfort foods to us and remind of us our backgrounds.

When I was younger living at home, my mom - a single mother with little money, used to make what she called goulosh. Really it was just fried hamburger, diced potatoes and whatever vegetables we had on hand. She would make a thick gravey. It didn't taste like stew as stew so often has a tomato background to it. My mom was the best tortilla maker in the world. She learned from a Mexican lady we lived next door to when I was a baby. She would make tortillas to go with the goulosh. It was the best cold weather meal. My mom is gone now and I am always sorry that I didn't have more interest in learning how to make flour tortillas the way she did. You know, when you are younger you just don't have a lot of interest in things like that. Her tortillas were always thick and slightly chewy. I can almost taste them right now.

The goulash we had was browned hamburger and onion with macaroni and tomatoes. It was really good with some parmesan cheese sprinkled on top! Can someone tell me what the different color stars with numbers are by people's names and how you get them? Thanks.

I love soups and stews, they are absolutely delicious, I could eat them anytime of the year. With my thyroid condition, I also feel cold all the time so I need warm foods to make me feel warm.

It was pretty chilly here the other day and I made a pot of chicken and noodles - it was really good! Those are the kind of dishes that warm you up inside when you're cold!

in where i am there are no season like fall and winter. though i experience winter and fall already while working abroad. stew and soups are the best for cold season. and of course coffee. it is funny to see children who still eat icecream on a winter season but i find to realize that we also still drink hot coffee on a hot day.

I like hot cocoa in the winter too - reminds me of when we used to go outside sledding in the snow when we were kids and would come in to Mom's homemade cocoa.

Beef Stew, chili, lasagne, beef and noodles, potato bacon casserole are all good cold weather dishes. Chicken Noodle soup is a really good cold weather meal that is fast just heat it up in the microwave. My kids love spaghetti and garlic bread any time of year.

We will sometimes use canned chicken noodle soup, chili or tomato soup when we're in a hurry, but we prefer homemade when we have the time.

I love beef stew and chili but I also luck heavier meals like beef stroganoff and chicken paprika. I agree that I use my crockpot alot more and I begin to use my oven again. I rarely use it in the summer to avoid heating up the house. I tend to make more roast and roast chicken and turkey. My favorite lunch during the winter months is soup. In the summer I eat salads alot for lunch but it is definately soup in the winter. I also start drinking hot chocolate. It is a great night time snack curled up on the couch as the snow flies.

I haven't done it yet this year, but I like to make big pots of various soups and either can or freeze them in quarts to heat up and eat when we're in a hurry.

Of course like almost everyone else I would have to say, soups, stews and chili with cornbread. But one of my all time faves would have to be shepherds pie. It's a very warming hearty meal.

Beef stew sounds good, but then so does a pot of really good chili. I also like beans and ham, with cornbread of course. In fact, part of what makes any of these meals great is to have some really good bread with it.
