Taken from our daily paper.."Times Observer".... Erie, PA..."An Erie grandmother and grandfather are in the county jail after a violent feud over how to reprimand their grandson for not doing his homework.." "Police say the 8-year-old boy called police Thursday evening, saying his grandmother had a knife and his grandfather a gun..." "Police say the fight began when 49-year-old Sheila Martin slapped her grandson for not doing his homework, Police say 69-year-old Rodney Keith Peyton told her to stop and Martin threatened the pair with a knife...." OMG!!! What were they thinking? This is just crazy!!

That is crazy..The best way to get a child to do homework is to not allow certain things..Like for my oldest, no frineds, no going out, no TV until it was done..My older son, if I was to have a problem, which I didn't, I would have taken away his video games..Unless the kid is satisfied with sitting and doing absolutely nothing and watching four walls from the time of getting home from school until bedtime, then there was a way to get him to do it..

There has to be serious problems with the grandparents for them to act this way..I wonder if the homework issue just brought everything to a head and then they blew up at each other...

Who made these people parents, let alone grandparents. I hope the boy is okay now. He should never have to live like that.

Scary situation for sure....I sure hope he can get over this...Not sure who is going to take care of him..It doesn't mention his parents at all...

I noticed that. They must have been raising their grandson, but then that begs the question, how screwed up were, if screwed up they were, to give their son to these kind of people? My grandmother would have never done that to my brother and me, if we did not do our homework, she would just tell our mother, or she would ask why we did not do our homework?

Shame on them for behaving like that in front of an 8 year old boy. That's no way to act just cause he didn't do his homework. Kudos to the young boy for being smart enough to call the police before his grandparents could do any harm to each other. I'm just in utter disbelief that two adults would act this way in front of a child over something soooooo stupid.

The grandma started it and then the grandpa was trying to protect the boy...very sad situation and I am glad he was able to call for help... I would never even think to act that way in front of my grandsons...I don't even like to raise my voice with them...

I have no clue what they were thinking but obviously I don't think they were thinking... Let's be honest this was so extreme that it's not funny.. I think that anyone who goes to this extent needs some help.

LOL... beating their grandson because the boy didn't do his homework?? i wonder if they were abused by their own grandparents whenever they didn't do their homework??? what bunch of psychoes -_-;; the police gotta come up with a harsher punishment for those two for abusing a little 8 year old...

Maybe there will be more information and then we will know what all happened..but then maybe we won't get the whole story...

Going to those lengths? To discipline an 8 year old because of homework?? That's ludicrous! Good thing those grandparents are getting their "time out"! Hugs PPP...

I can't even imagine getting that frustrated over my child or grandchild not doing their homework and then getting into a huge fight with my partner over the fight itself. It just seems so pointless and look where it ended up, with probably both of them in jail.

There isn't any reason to become violent...I always talked to my kids and I do with my grandsons..There must be some other reason for what they did...That is just way too extreme for the reason they give as to why they did it...

This poor child will forever be traumatized over this , what were they thinking is right ? There must have been more to it then that for them to get so emotional over something such as homework although it was wrong for the grandmother to slap the child across the face for not doing his homework . Why did the grandparents have this child and where were the real parents ? That is absolutely horrible this child will always link this to school which will cause him problems !!

That is very crazy. I know that kids sure can get on a grandparents and parents nerves these days very well, but that is unreal to do something like that. How do they expect that child to want to do better when they are not setting a very good example themselves?

All kids push their limits...but for them to be violent towards the boy is not the answer... I wonder if this was just an unresolved dispute between the grandparents and this just brought it to a head.... Kids needs guidance..not Violence..

I'm not sure, but it seems like this generation is more violent than ever before! They get what they want, when they want and if they don't, they attack people! I think parenting is not as good these days, and I wish our lifestyles could be more helpful to the kids. They're just not growing up right! Maybe it's how busy we all are, and everything seems to be twisted beyond belief. If they're not bombing the school, they're getting pregnant behind a dumpster!

They sure do seem more violent these days...but with grandparents/parents doing this crap no wonder kids kill teachers and what not...I am glad the kid called the police and wasn't injured do to the stupidity on the grandparents part... There was no reason for what happen here... If his homework wasn't done then there are a dozen or more ways to handle a situation like this...Violence isn't one of them...

I think it is the lack of comunication and bonding tha tpeople have these days with their kids. With t.v., video games, school, and going out they have very little time to nurture their relationship with each other. This cause tension on both sides. Also with the amount of people in this world, youre going to have more chances for crazy stories like these. i thank god that i have supportive parents and grandparents. They're what shaped me really

Hi danny... I agree with the lack of communication and bonding also...I have two grandsons and we play lots of games I played as a child...we go to the library. We play outside....When they do something innappropriate we talk about it.... My grandsons are both very good kids..ages 6 and 4....Kids look to the adults for answers and we need to set good examples...It is so very important that we listen and actually hear what our kids are saying... I am so glad you have supportive parents and grandparents...It does make a big difference...

wow great discussion. Everything from why are these people raising this child to violence behind dumpsters and the school system. These times are definitely changing and I'd have to say they aren't for the better. What were they thinking? I say that almost every night when I watch the news. What kind of society are we creating for our children? eeekk. I homeschool so I can eliminate some of the concerns but you have to wonder...why were the grandparents raising the boy and why did homework set them off? Weapons? OMG so glad nobody got hurt. Let us know if you get an update as to where the parents were.

Eeeek is right...There has got to be something else that hasn't come out yet..Good grief...I hope I do find out about the parents...Because if the grandparents are raising him...where is he going to go now that they are in jail...Poor little guy...

So what wonderful life lessons are they teaching this boy? In some ways he sounds more grown up than either of his grandparents. Where is his mom? Where is his dad? I hope he gets to be in a safe place.
