How well do you know your parents cousins?

A couple months ago I was at a family reunion from my granmothers side. It was all her neices and nephews and their children. These were my mother's cousins and I realized that I didn't know who any of them were. I don't know why we didn't know them growing up, but they seemed pretty close and knew each other pretty well.
A couple weeks after that I was at a family reunion from my father's side of the family and I knew almost all of my father's aunts and cousins. I remembered them from when I was growing up, it seems like I saw them all the time.
My kids know my cousins very well because we go to the family reunions all the time so they've hung out with them quite a bit. Now, their father's family lives in another state and they haven't seen them in 5 years or so, and before that it was like 10 years. So I know they hardly know their own cousins let alone their father's cousins.
Is your family close enough that you know your parents cousins as well as you know your own cousins?

That's awesome. My kids are like that with some of my cousins, but I rarely remember any of my mother's cousins...

I do feel very fortunate that my kids know my relatives pretty well. Although they do not know their fathers family because they live so far away.
