why do people have affairs?

yes.I am totally agree with you.Why do people have affairs?not only mess up their own life,but also others!!so what's the point? To have some stupid fun?Or just feel boring about their parnters?I wonder..

Honestly there are as many reasons as there are ppl who are cheating really..And I'm sure some reasons that havent even been used yet come to think of it....Sure in a perfect world its better to be faithful but sadly its not a perfect world ya know....

I wouldn't want to call it messing up someone else's life. I don't think it should be seen or taken in that context. Affairs are affairs and it takes two to tangle. This means that both parties have to be and are consenting adults who understand consequences of their affair. The only sad about it is that these two consenting adults are being selfish against their other legitimate partners. There are many reasons and factors that lead people to having affairs. One common scenario is a person who is now tied up to someone for ever, but is not getting what he/she thinks he/she should. Not wanting to opt out, they decide to have some temporal measure to take care of the situation and fill the void. Another scenario is just some one who just is used to doing that, sleeping around and all.

Honestly, I find it hard to explain as well because I have never been in a relationship....but I guess people have affairs because they want to satisfy their own pleasures and desires. Besides, like the first person who replied mentioned, some people just don't think before they do things, which I think is really the case too. These people don't think of the consequences of their actions until it's time to deal with them. Their own desires cloud their minds that all they think of is about those desires and nothing else....Also, perhaps these people who have affairs just don't feel the guilt within them because maybe they think that they could sweep everything under the carpet and hide the whole truth. Unfortunately for them, it would be found out some time or other....

well if we knew why people got affairs , then why would affairs happen !lol its just that we dont know thats why they happen!

It's funny cause I read this book one time that was talking about how no other mammal in the animal kingdom ever is exclusive to one mate!!! Only humans have thought this to be the norm. I am not saying it isn't immoral (to human standpoint I guess) just we would be the oddballs in nature then I suppose! It's an ill way to think about it. It is in all of our natures to be with more than one partner if we consider ourselves mammals. Does not doing this make us a more evolved life form?
