What is the best way to introduce a new pet?

I am thinking of getting another cat, but I want to know what affect that will have on my one year old cat. What are some of the experiences out there? I know it can be difficult, and cats are very territorial. But I think the fact that my cat is still young might make it easier.

My older cat ran in fear and hid for a few days when we brought a tiny kitten into house. No he's used to her and acts like he's the boss.
One recommended way is to keep them separated for a few days with a door between them. They can sniff one another under the door but not reach the other. Get them used to the smell of the other.

I fine that there are no problems as long as they are younger than the female
cat that you all ready have. They will take in as a baby kitten.you are right
about it being territorial.but if kitten is younger they well teach and feel
important. So good luck. I have 5 cats and a dog!!!!!and they are all happy
