I check the whole thing over looking for more meat than fat. If it is in the cardboard box I lift the flaps in the back and look at it. I usually only buy two different brands of bacon cause they yield the highest meat content. One brand is Smithfield the other is Guatney. Both taste good too. They cook good too.

That's my opinion, too. I prefer Smithfield bacon over the others because there always seems to be more meat and less fat than the others. You just have to look at them all very closely before buying one. I like to fry up bacon, then crumble it to make my own bacon bits for salads and baked potatoes. I want bacon bits, not "fat bits"! I only buy Canada Bacon. It is very good and I do not see any fat at all. It is purely meat, or at least that is what it looks like to me. I can find them at costco.

yep I go the butcher to purchase all my meat. I have no problems getting good meat when I do that. I love having a butcher close so that I can get good deals and good meat.

The thing about bacon is... it's very fatty- pork bacon, that is. If you want lean, try turkey bacon. There really is no trick to buying lean pork bacon, since it doesn't really exist. Just buy the ones that you can see so you can have an idea of how meaty it is, but don't expect a lot. Smithfield is a good brand, but the generic in my store is often just as good.

I LOVE my bacon as well, I also like it cooked a little crispy which helps the fat burning. But the best bacon i have found (this includes taste) is a private label brand from the supercenter, maple flavored. The store i buy from is price chopper but try your local (chain) supercenter. ATM
