I think that young people are more celebrity obsessed than older folks. Older people have other things to worry about and entertain themselves with, whereas young ones rely on MTV and Disney to get their news and music. The press and paparazzi also play a major role by focusing too much on these people's lives instead of major issues we should be dealing with.

I think that that is probably true as we grow wiser with age and place importance on different things.

I think that people are way too obsessed with celebrities. The whole stardom and fame thing has been blown way out of proportion. Asked what they'd like to be growing up a lot of kids will tell you "famous". Most of them have no idea what they'd do to be famous. They just want to be famous for fame's sake. I think that should generally be frowned upon. On the other hand I can understand an interest in innocent gossip. It helps people escape their own world.

It does seem sad though that the value we place on people is based on what they earn or how often they are on tv. Personally I really don;t care who was seen wearing what at a party. It has no bearing on my life and I really would not want to be famous at all - seems to me many celebs are actually pretty miserable in their personal lives.
