Hi
Try the following:
- submit your forum address to search engines and directories
- join and participate in other related forums and put the forum address in your signature
- participate regularly in your own forum
- pay for a person or a group of people to either promote your forum for you or to post up on your forums.

I have the same question. I've seen people paying for posts but don't think that's the answer you're looking for. How many members do you have? Perhaps you can try to find a small forum which has some active members and suggest some joint venture.
I don't know what I'm talking about. I want to help but my mind is blank on this one. Sorry.

Now this advice comes from an experienced forum administrator.
First thing you do to promote your forum is to be active on other forums! Be active on forums and websites, especially on those related to your topic. Strike up good relationships with your fellow forum owners. Post quality and informative posts about the subject that you are most familiar with. With any luck, you will be viewed as a valued contributor and any link to your own site from your forum signatures will give you lots of traffic.
Secondly, on your forum you have to be professional. That means, no spelling or grammatical errors, especially not those obvious glaring ones! Also, you'll have to watch the tone of your words. Do not make attacks on others, it simply makes others adverse to you.
For a new forum, you may also want to take the lead and start some new discussions. They should be provocative and make members want to respond to them. You may also want to add some incentive to your forum such that visitors will make up their mind and register on your forum.
That's all for now, let me know if you need further help. Happy Mylotting everyone!
