why dont people use their real names as usernames in mylot?

Well I've been called by my username plenty of times.

Nope. Why? Because privacy is a very important thing, especially on the internet. Alot of people have problems with stalkers or criminals...it's much better when most of the world overall hasn't a clue who you are, because it's safer. I believe it's a wise precaution.

my username is the initials of my daughter and her year of birth,, she is my first born and I just find it cute to use her initials.. have a great day!

Oh goodness, I would think it would be fairly obvious. My name is uncommon so I doubt there would be more than one Marie Anne, but how many people here do you think might be named Cindy or Bill? How in heaven's name could you have that many members with the same or similar username? I suppose you could go with whatever default numbers pop up after it, but imagine the confusion. Trying to maintain personal security, obviously, but I believe my theory is probably just as much the reason as any.

i will also ask you the same question, why don't you use your real name as your username here in mylot? for me personally i didn't use my real name as my username here coz i just want to change my name just here in forum lol in short i'm tired of using my real name coz i always here it over & over again hehehe.. or should i say this is my screen name at forum's industry lol

I guess some people just like to remain hidden behind an alias! There's nothing wrong with that I guess, you should use whatever makes you feel comfortable. I personally like to use my real name. There is no other you with your name in the world! I guess there is the viewpoint that, if your name is known then it can be used to find out personal things about you, I'm not sure that this is true though. There's definitely a lot to be said regarding security and protecting yourself on the Internet as you just don't know when you might come across a crazy dood! However, I'm sure that the whole using your name idea is safe! What's yours by the way or is your real name Magna? Andrew

When I joined mylot, I never knew how important a username could be. I did not pay much attention to frame my user name. I just did it randomly and now when I am questioned about it, I fail to give satisfactory answer for it. First three letters are from my real name and the numbers have been added randomly, the added numbers have not particular significance. I do not mind using my real name, it does not make any difference to me, in fact I would like my friends that they should know me by my real name.

I wonder, too. I'm using a username, because at the start I just didn't know better, and did 'as I was told'. Now, my real name is Georg, and I wouldn't mind if that showed up. I wouldn't put my full name, because of privacy concerns. But using a username makes me feel that I'm creating a different personality, and I don't know why I should do that. I guess it's just something people started to do at the beginning of the Internet, and now it's impossible to stop.

I usually won't use my real name in here, i would use nicks like this to take over my name here. Sort of some nick to distinguish own stats.

Hi magna! I am not using my real name here too in mylot. I am only using my alieas "Ace" which some of my former officemates call me. "Ivann" because it is the aRussian name of my real second name. Using other names instead of my real name keeps privacy about my identity. Of course, I know that there are lots of nice people here, but of course I also want to leave some mystery of myself here in mylot. LOL!

um.. im using my nickname as my username here i jut add a "kulet" word to make it long hehehe i just want it long :)

well,casey is my english name and tss are the initials of my chinese name~~ So,I think the username can be my real name~~ But in chinese forums, I never use my real name because it is not safe, some people will do something bad with this name. And I never use my photos as well, some people will change the photos with photoshop.

First of all, it's not only in myLot, its everywhere the same, either they like to be known by their nicks, or they don't want others to know their real name, they may feel great having a unique name, uniqueness of name also matters for them. Also there maybe many users with same names, and some may taunt other by his name, if its nick, it won't matter at all, also nick is a very good reflector of our personal habbits.

yes this is a nice question..me too not using my own name..i too wonder about this habit...this may be for the security reason or peaple want to use a modern names.

i don't want to use my realname as mu username with the same reason as you have. And i just don't see the point in using it here in the internet where there are a lot of scammers. Happy mylotting, cheers!

For me, I just didn't use my real name because it was pretty common and kinda plain I think, unlike this username, I find it cute and interesting - I get quistis from the name of one of the characters of a RPG game that I once played - so, I decided to use it. Also, most often than not, my real name was being used by others so, I have no choice to think another. As well as, it's more of liking to have an interesting and uncommon name at least, even if it was just a screen name.

My username is my nickname.My friends called me on my nickname and this is the reason why i chose it as username so that can recognize me easilly.I don't have any reasons why would disclose my name.

hi buddy.. me too didnt expose my real name, the reason is due to the lack of availability of usernames in the mail id services.. i mostly maintain a common username and so for mylot also i kept the same user name.. there is no other reason here for me in keeping some other name as user name

i can't use my real name because it is chinese. i think it's unique to use this username.
