I told my boys that they need to get an early start on deciding what to be this year instead of waiting till the last minute. They can't think of anything. Any suggestions? They are 13 and 16. What are you going to be?

We don't do anything for Halloween. All my kids are grown and my grandson is only 2 months. So, no children to go trick or treating. We live off the main roads and have a dog so we never get trick or treaters at our house either. Some of the churches in our area have a big carnival type thing and give out candy and prizes so the kids can be safe and not go door to door.

That's ok. We don't go trick or treating either. We live in a neighborhood where everyone has 5 or more acres and it would just be too much. LOL
Our volunteer fire station has a party for them every year. They have a blast.

Have them dress up as a character from a movie or tv show they like. Or have them make up something all on their own! It's fun to go to thrift stores and get wacky things to put together for a costume (: I'm going as Old Gregg - a character from the show 'The Mighty Boosh' (shown over in the UK). Since they're not own here, I'm having to buy everything piece by piece and make the wig myself! :P Halloween is a perfect time to get creative!

We got really creative last year. My youngest was a backeyed pea. We painted his eye like he had a black eye and then made him a white shirt with a great big "P" on it. My oldest was Frankinstine.

Some people think I'm pretty scary just the way I am, but that mainly applies to people who don't like polysyllabic folks. I guess I could dress up as an encyclopedia!
But seriously, I hope the come up with something NICE. Some of the costumes people put on when we lived in the San Francisco Bay Area were pretty disrespectful to other folk's belief systems and I like that the good people in our small town here in Arizona are wholesome.
How about a couple of vegetables, lol. No fruit, please. How about some kind of interesting masculine-seeming insect, like a bumblebee?
I always thought it would be fun to dress like a tree, lol, like in that wonderful Japanese movie about MacBeth where the soldiers used small trees as camouflage and moved closer to the fort. That was a great scene! Whatever your dear ones do, I hope they have a safe and happy halloween, and I agree that now is the time to start planning for that! Please give them both a hug from me and keep one for yourself!

I wanted to dress up the 13 year old as "Lake #_$&* Woods", the neighborhood where we live, last year. I wanted to dress him as a tree and put a lake on his head with the name of the lake written in the middle. He opted to be a blackeyed pea instead. I put a black circle around his eye and made him a white shirt with a big "P" on it. His 16 year old brother went as Frankinstein.
Last night, hubby said that "we" should make a costume for the baby too. LOL I asked him if he was really going to be involved in the costume making this year or was the "we" a slip. He said that I am way more talented in the costume making department. LOL

As I am a 51 year old woman I don't dress up for halloween anymore. But I sure do
dress up my house. We, my daughter and I, put up decorations in the house and outside
of the house, for halloween. We bought tons of new decorations this year and put up
more than we have in past years.
I really like halloween even though my kids are grown. I love to see all the little
kiddies dressed up and trick or treating. But this year was a big dissappointment.
We were all prepared to recieve at least 100 kids and did up over 100 packages and to
our surprise we only got 3 kids this year. How awful. We had lots of candy left and
after halloween was over we took it all to the school by our house.
Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend,
Have a good mylotting day, Chris

I don't know. I was going to go as a greek god. then I'm thinking about changing my mind. I'm just not hot enough to be a greek god! I think I will be a necromancer... When I was little we used to dress up like clowns every halloween... or vampires... same stuff every year heheh one year I was a tree LOL

I don't think that ALL of the greek gods are hot. You should go ahead with it. I think it would make a great costume. You are probably being too hard on yourself.
