It's a boy. We got him when he was 2 days old. He is 6 weeks old now. He is so cute and we are so in love with him it's not even funny.
For those of you who think that foster parents get paid too much, it's not true. We get 15 dollars a day for keeping him. We have already spent about 500 dollars on him. LOL We even paid to have him circumcised. Foster children are on Medicaid and Medicaid doesn't pay for the proceedure.
Do you think that Medicaid should cover circumsisions?

I know foster parents don't get a lot of money, I would wonder why people would think that they did. People who think that probably think they'd get rich taking care of children, which isn't the case.
Here, parents get about $1000/month per child I think, but I know with an infant, that really doesn't go very far except to cover basic needs.
Good luck to you with this.

1000.00 a month! Wow! I wish I could get that much for him. I could buy him a lot more stuff. So far, I have gotten a lot from garage sales and thrift stores.

I know, it's not easy. Don't quote me on that figure, I think it's just for my city, which seems to have a lot of money, and way too many children in foster care.
Children need permanent homes.

Here in New Jersey a person still gets support from Dyfs for adopting through the foster care program. I know a few people that get paid pretty well for adopting.

They used to cover it. Why did you have him circumcised? It isn't a necessary procedure.

Because it is cleaner and he will have less chances of getting infections. Also, he will have less chances of spreading infections when he becomes sexually active. We had it done with his Mother's consent.

As long as he's a healthy happy baby that's all that matters. Disagree with your reasons, but that's a different matter.
My family history deals with adoption, foster homes, etc. so I'm always happy to see those who care for the ones who can't help themselves.

That is weird Medicaid doesn't cover it, my son is on it and it seems they cover almost anything he ever needed, though I remember when he was born it was done through my insurance and actually the doctor who delivered him, so maybe that makes a difference?
Enjoy the little guy, they get big fast! It's so nice of you to take care of a baby that otherwise wouldn't have a safe and happy home!

Hey, that is awesome. Congratualtions to you and your family. I am actually adopted and considering on adopting or foster care if my husband and I can't have kids. There are so many kids out there just waited to be loved and supported. Best of luck to you.
Oh, and to your last question. Ummm, I never thought about this one but on first thought, I would say Medicaid should not pay for it. Circumcision is normally done for religious reasons, although there are health reasons too. In my opinion, anything religious should not be funded by public funds or government agencies.

We had the circumcision done purely for health reasons. With the bio Mom's permission of course.

Congratulations! You are doing a great thing by giving this child a home.
I heard that some people take in foster children so they can earn money but if you are saying you only get 15 dollars a day that is not a lot.
A former neighbor was going to take in a handicapped child to foster because she would get more money. She would pass down her sons clothes to him so she wont have to buy him new ones so she could pay her bills with the money she saved.
I know you are doing it because you want to give this child love and not for the money.

Our goal is to adopt one more foster child. We have already adopted two and only have room for one more. I wish I was rich with a bigger house so I could get more. LOL

To be honest, no I don't think that Medicaid needs to pay for that category of procedure unless it has been deemed medically necessary, but I agree that when parents give good foster care they are always giving more than they receive moneywise. When they do not give good care, shudder, then that is a whole different matter. I am so glad you finally got through that process as I know how much you wanted a wee one.
If I know you, though, you are just going to keep on trying until you get a girl as well. I'm sure your older boys are delighted to have a little brother though and that they will be really helpful and love him like you do. Keep it up! :-)

True. The boys really wanted a baby sister, but they are totally in love with their new foster brother. They asked if they could have both. I reminded them that the little baby boy might go back to his bio Mom sometime in the future so, he is not a positive. Although, it's a pretty sure thing that she won't get him back.

I am surprised that it isn't covered by medicare. What country do you live in? I know
it is covered here in Canada because I had my son done when he was a baby and it didn't
cost me anything for the procedure.
I think when you take in a foster child all their medical bills should be covered and
you shouldn't have to pay for any of it. At $15 a day that isn't much when you think
about the medical costs too. What about if he was older and had to go to the dentist?
Would you have to pay for that too? Or if he needs glasses?
Here in Calgary I know a couple people that take in foster children and they get a lot
more money than that and they don't pay for any of the extras that the government
should and does pay for, like a doctor bill. I know one lady that takes in foster kids
from an indian reserve and she gets $2000 a month for each one. She has 6 foster kids
and so she is making really good money although it is really hard work and I commend
her for it.
Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend,
Have a good mylotting day, Chris
