How do you limit your children's video game time?

How do you put limits on the amount of time your children can spend playing video games, or is it even a problem in your home? How much is too much? Is too much harmful in itself, or just in the fact that it cuts out other good things?

If I would let my son, he would play his video game all the time. I have to put a limit on it. Usually about an hour is good in my opinion. especially during the week, during school. He can't play unless his homework is done (correctly) and his chores are done. Then he will usually play until supper time. on the weekends I let him play a couple times throughout the day. I have no problem with him playing, but I also keep his options open to doing other things, especially when the weather is good outside. I explain to him why I put a limit on it, and he seems to understand.

Sounds like you have it more under control than I do. I try to put limits like you, but it's a constant battle with mine. As soon as I turn my back, they wind up back on the games. Some times are worse than others. I explain it to them too, but they don't seem to think it's that big of a deal. Ugh, I'm so tired of it. May I ask if your son is in elementary, middle, or high school? I think the older they get, the harder it gets to convince them of anything.
