Ok, my husband and I just moved to a new city near the TX coastline, and all this hurricane talk has me freaked out. I'm not used to this at all. I've never had to deal with a hurricane. I'm pregnant, and I keep thinking about it. If we should have to leave, we may end up staying with my parents for a few days which is just making it worse. lol. I'm watching the news and paying attention to see what's going to happen. I'm getting some things together just in case. What can I do to relax a little and to accept we may have to leave?? This is really worrying me, and that's the last thing I need to do now. Thanks.

I'm on the coast in Virginia (Virginia Beach) and have been through a few hurricanes. I find that if I'm prepared, I worry a little bit less than I do if I'm not. I try to get supplies ready just in case, and make plans of where I will go if I evacuate. I have pets, so I still am not sure where I would go. Watching the news a lot may add to your concerns. I think it's good to be aware, but try not to let it become your main focus. You could try distracting yourself. Think about the baby, watch a funny movie or do something that makes you laugh, listen to music that relaxes you, read a book, watch your favorite tv shows, take a bubble bath, go out to dinner with your husband/significant other, go out with a close friend, talk to people about your concerns, pray/meditate. Some of my ideas may sound silly, but it's hard when we are faced with situations that we cannot control.

Yeah we did end up evacuating. It was so horrible, I was very uncomfortable. I ended up satying in someone's home that I didn't know. The electricity went off for days, I had to eat spam, it was so difficult. A couple of days ago, I went to the hospital because I was having pains and contractions. Thank God baby and I are fine. It's just been so stressful. I've learned to never take anything for granted. A warm shower, the chance to cook a hot meal. Life is really hard without electricity.

aw really? Thanks for thinking of us. I'm just thankful that everything is fine with my baby. Dear Lord, they gave me a catheder to get a urine sample, and that is like the worst fear in my life!!! That was the only resaon why I was afraid to giving birth because I know I may have to get one esp. if I end up getting an epidural. I was crying, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Now I really don't think I'll be afraid to have my baby when that time comes.

I am sorry to hear about how difficult it was for you during the hurricane, but am very glad to hear that you and the baby are doing ok. It wasn't too long after I responded to your post that I heard about how bad the hurricane was expected to be. I don't know you, but I instantly thought of you and was hoping you and your family were safe. I have a difficult time when the electricity is off. I never realize just how much it means to me until I don't have it.

After I do some things just in case, I think I will watch a movie. My mom made it worse. She actually called me up and asked me about the hurricane. I quickly told her that I didn't want to talk about it. That conversation was over an hour ago, and I can't stop thinking about it.
