Later for the girls and about a year for the boys, the girls were pretty much bone idle lol they used to like to sit on there rumps and wait until everything was passed to them, where the boys a diferent thing completely, they were up on their feet as quick as they could ,and then there was no stopping them, they were off,and soon they were running about too

My daughter also didn't start walking until about 14 months (like I beleive you mentioned).
I have a friend who has a daughter who is a few months older than mine, she started walking about one year. So, I talked to the doctor, as I was a little bit concerned, but they said give it time. Sure enough, she started. She is 4 now and isn't behind in anything now.
I think it may have a lot to do with interaction with other kids. That same friend also has a son, who started walking a little bit before 9 months. I was shocked becuase I thought that was pretty early, but he also had a big sister to watch. My daughter didn't attend daycare, as I stayed home with her, so I just encouraged her by helping her stand and moving a little bit, but she started walking on her own with no problems, but just a little bit later.

my eldest baby girl learned to walk on her own by 11 months
my second baby boy learned to walk on his own by 1 year and 2 months

I had three children and they all started walking at different stages. My oldest was 14 months before she started walking, my middle child was just a year old, and my youngest was 11 months old. Each one walked quicker than the last!

My daughter took her time! She saw all her friends start to walk at around the 1 year mark, but it didn't phase her and she waited until she was ready, lol! She first attempted to walk at about 13 months, just coasting along furniture and sometimes trying a few steps without holding on; but they were very wobbly and she didn't feel confident. So she gave up trying for a few months, and after lots of practicing while holding onto our hands, she tried again herself at 15 months, and she's been walking (and running and dancing!) ever since.
My mum tells me that I walked later than this; I didn't walk until I was 17 months, and my cousin waited even longer; until he was 18 months.
A lot of your responses so far seem to be about earlier walkers, and maybe children are (on average) walking earlier these days, (I don't know?) but there is still a pretty big range for what's considered "normal". Some toddlers just develop this particular skill later than others, it's no big deal. And it's probably safer for them to wait until they're ready after all!

Our daughter started walking a couple days after her first birthday. I remember it because my mother-in-law (her grandmother) was visiting us for a week and spent the entire time trying to get her to start walking when she was there to see it. Our daughter started walking while she was on her flight home.

My first two started walking at 10 months. My youngest started walking shortly after turning 9 months. He'd been walking holding onto stuff since about 6 months.
My friends son started walking at 8 months...first kid I've ever known that walked that early.

I have three kids. My eldest walked when she was 11 months old. My second walked when he was more than a year old. And my third, is not yet walking since she is still 10 months old. I think, it really depends on the capability of the child.

he was trying to walk before he celebrated his first birthday. then a day or two after his birthday he can walk alone. he didnt even crawl that long. he is more on a sit down guy and a stand up guy. i've seen some of my nephew and nieces who crawl more before they learned to sit alone and stand alone. but it is also depends on the body of the cghild. my son is two and a half but the progress of words are not that fast as of now all he can say are simple words.... not that talkative yet. ohh talkative but the words are not yet that clear.

I already have 3 kids, two of them are now toddlers. If my memory serves me right they walk in different times. My first born started walking when he was 1 year old while my second born started walking when he was 9 months and according to my mother I started walking when I was only 8months old..
